Bear Alaskan questions

Let me first say that I am new to archery and I recently aquired a Bear Alaskan compound bow. Can anyone give me some information on this bow, I cannot find much on the internet. Is this considered a "low quality" bow? Is it an older bow? The string or cable is frayed, if I were to replace it what length would I need to get and how hard is it to do on my own or would I need to take it to a professional? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used to drool over that bow when I was a kid. The local hardware store had one but it was waaaay big for me at the time. It was the late 80's and this one had a black maple wood riser and black limbs. I wouldn't shoot it, it's ooooold.

I have one of the orginal ones from the 70's. I would probably suggest you not shoot it but hang it on the wall. In it's day it was a top of the line, state of art bow.;)
