Bear Archery Warranty

My brother bought a Bear Element in 2007 when the Bear Archery warranty was full lifetime warranty on the whole bow and now they only warrant the limbs 100% for the first 5 years and 50% after that. So my question is, will they warranty his limbs 100% since when he bought the bow it was full lifetime on the whole bow? And do they even make those limbs anymore? And if they don't what would his options be?

Any feedback and help is very appreciated!

Thanks!

hmm .. seems weird that they can change their warranty coverage .. -- you probably could make a case that they cover at the levels they had when you bought the bow .. probably through the BBB ..

also if the warranty is a 100% lifetime and the manufacturer no longer makes that product, they usually have the option of replacing it with a product of equal or greater value.

Companies generally reserve the right to change their policies, including warranties, at any time. It is a pita, but at least you are getting some coverage vs. none at all.

I would make a stink about it. This isn't just a changed policy, it is a written agreement. Companies can't change the warranty that you paid for. They can change the warranty their newer bows come with, but if you purchased a bow with a lifetime warranty then that is what you paid for. Not only that, if they replace the item with a different item, the lifetime warranty would apply to the new item as well since it replaces the item you got the warranty for.

I wasnt aware that bear ever covered its limbs 100% for life. But if your brother still has the owners manual i would make a stink. It should state the warranty he paid for and if it said 100% for life id say i want my limbs free.

i guess many fail to understand that the BEAR name along with Jennings, Golden Eagle and Buckmaster bows went thru an ownership change. North American Archery Group went under about that time and Escalade Sports bought the rights and assets of Bear Archery.

Escalade made changes to not only available product lines but all the other things that go with them. they trimmed the fat, streamlined the company and products and turned around a company that was in the same situation Martin Archery is now.

Yep, just like any company that gets bought out, the new company can decide to honor the past ownership's warranty or not. It's nice they're covering 50% though.

so which is better?

a bow manufacturer with a partial/conditional warranty that never needs warranty work?

or

a bow manufacturer with a full lifetime warranty that needs warranty work a time or two?

i've owned Bear/Jennings bows since the early 90's and i don't recall them ever having a full lifetime warranty. unless your brother has it in writing, he is probably mistaken. Bear Archery does cover everything else except the limbs for the lifetime of the bow. they only cover the 100% of the limbs for the first 5 years and after that they will cover 50% of the cost. my Bear Whitetail Legend that i bought back in the early to mid 90's is still in good working order and my bowfishing rig right now. that bow is older than a lot of the bow companies out there right now and i have never had the first problem with it.

Haters gonna hate. From all the Archery Shop guys Ive talked to Bear is the best company to deal with, seconded by Hoyt. Bowtech just blows from what I hear.
