I have never had bear, but a couple weeks ago a buddy of mine got one. He gave me a couple packs of steak and a couple packs of loin.

What is the best way to cook bear? Just fry it in pan or on the grill? Marinate?

I typically eat my red meat well done, fried or grilled. I have been told that bear can be tough and/or stringy. I would like to give this meat a fair chance to see if I'd like to go bear hunting next year.

I don't need any fancy recipes, but some basic advice would be appreciated.

I have found that bear can be very greasy. I love deer, elk, moose, and every African game that I have ever tasted, but not a huge fan of bear. I think it would be best used in something that will have sauces, such as meatballs for pasta, or maybe a stroganoff dish. If by itself I would cook it slow and long, giving it a place for the grease to drain down, might try that?
