The Colorado Division of Wildlife used to sponsor a program for women who want to learn or brush up on outdoor skills called Becoming an Outdoors Woman, and has recently changed hands to the Colorado Wildlife Federation. However the new couple hosting the program need help getting the word out as the past member list belongs to the DOW and is not being released. they need at least 70 to sign up for the 3 day event in order to cover cost, everything is provided for a very reasonable price, for women 18 and older. This fall will be October 20-22nd, at the Aspen Lodge Ranch and Resort near Estes Park. The website has the registration form as well as all class information, schedules, fees, ect. If they do not get enough interest in this, BOW in Colorado will no longer be possible so please spread the word around and encourage the women in your life to do this. I can give you the contact info if interested.

You didn't give enough details to really get the word out.

Give the following information in your thread
Price
Planned events
Business contact information
Years of experience in the outdoors
It sounds like there is a man and a woman? Seems like it would be better to have all women running this or atleast doing the "training"
What equipment is needed

YEs the CDOW did do this. You should talk to them about listing it on their calendar of events page.

Also contact the Colorado Bowhunters Association and all of the various animal orgs (RMEF RMBHSA, MDF, etc.) Along those lines, you should also contact the retreiver clubs and pointing dog clubs). Not sure if you posted this on the Colorado forum of bowsite either...

I would be more inclined to pass this along to the clubs I have some affiliation with if you give a lot more information.

Thanks for asking so many questions. Most of the information can be found on the website, www.gobeyondbow.com. The CDOW used to host it but is now hosted by Wildland Enterprises with the Co Wildlife Federation as a partner, and have a whole list of national sponsors such as RMEF, Ducks Unlimited, Cabela's, Women's Wilderness Institute, Wild Turkey Federation, just to name a few, as well as local sponsors like Rocky Mountain National Park, Rocky Mountain Bighorn society, Mule Deer Foundation. No equipment is needed, everything is provided. It is on a first come first serve basis, if you happen to be fortunate enough to get into the archery class you can bring your own bow if you have one. For the horse back riding there is a rental fee of $30 and must have the proper boots. The fee for this fall is $385.00 It is for women but not all the instructors are women. Classes offered include Firearm safety, fishing fun, safe and sane camping, medicinal and edible plants, preparation for the hunt, animal calling, compass/map reading, fly tying, all day hike, hiking/back packing basics, beginner fly fishing, shooting sports, wilderness medicine, outdoor photography, survival, water sports, hiking stick wood craft, wildlife watch, begining archery/bow hunt, beginning horsback riding, intro to field dressing game, dutch oven cooking, tracking, reading in the woods, firearm care/shooting sports, GPS facts/fiction, advanced fly fishing, advanced horses, and all three days there is a silent auction so women are encouraged to bring something to sell at the auction. Contact info for Susanne and Brett Roller, coordinators, 303-697-2800 or [email protected], also the website again www.gobeyondbow.com. They also offer one day classes as well, and that info is all on the website as well as registration forms. Thanks again!
