Hi. I am wanting to shoot two blades this year here in Oregon for elk and deer season. I've heard that two blades fly better with field points and I could see why. The only concern I have is the hole it leaves but I've heard a lot of great things about two blades. Just wondering what the best brands and most popular two blade broad heads are out there and if anyone has experience with them. Thanks so much

shooting a true 2 blade i would look into a quality single bevel. i have had good luck with strickland helix, but there are several good heads out there in both single and double bevel. vpa, bishop, cutthroat, etc...

I'm a Simmons Sharks fan. Back in the '80's into the early '90's i shot enough sharpen yourself, cut on contact broadheads at deer, elk, bear to realize that I wasn't happy with 1 1/16" to 1 1/8" blade width. Zwickey Delta's with 1 3/8" and big Snuffers were better. But when I tried Land Sharks with that 1 9/16" cut I immediately saw the difference in wound channel size and blood trail visibility.

Yes, they are not very sturdy at all, but they are cheaper. Will they work, yep. Of all the two blades I have tried to date, German kenetics are the " best". I will explain what I mean by " best". Not sure if you are looking for " best" as in strongest, sharpest, best flying, best edge retention, best hole left in animal, best materials they are made from, economiclly, etc. Some broadheads are better in one catagory, but lacking in the others. I feel the GK, do a great job in all these categories. Iron will as a close second, if they would make a 1 1/2 or bigger cut they could possibly be best. If you are looking at shooting steel plate, or cinder blocks, bishops are your best bet. ( don't need all the catagories filled for that) strength they are best. The steel force fat head 1 1/2 cut may be a good ( cheaper) alternative, for hunting, if cost is a factor. ( I have not tried nor seen these yet) Simmons as mentioned are good heads also, there are many and best means something differant to many of us. One guy buys X head, and shoots five deer in row, all drop within feet. His brand new " best " head ever made. Another buys same head, shoots one , two, whatever, and can't recover, no blood, they have become his " worst " head ever. The broadhead can't make up for poor placement, sometimes they may help you out, but it's not there falt ( unless they come apart in the animal, on well placed shot) you misplaced the shot.

Strickland Helix or Anarchy 1.5's if you can find them. I run the 125 grain heads with a 50 grain insert. Took a 20 yard frontal on a blacktail last season with the helix. Broke left shoulder and exited just in front of the rear right hip. Arrow barely slowed down and the deer made it less than 20 yards. Also they have both proved very easy to tune and fly great out to about 60 before starting to drop out of field tip group a little .

Actually....you meant to say"Holes" right? /grin

Its a fact that 2 blades are the best penetrating heads by a wide margin. I can't think of a time I didn't get a pass through with a 2 blade...they are that effective....thus I don't worry about huge holes.

The reason I like 2 blades might surprise you; The animals hardly react to being shot. Those 2 blades go through them so fast the animal doesn't even feel it. I've actually had hogs look up...and go right back to feeding after being shot....then tip over. I've had elk just stand there looking around....its crazy cool. I had one elk stand there like that and I saw the arrow go sailing off 80 yds downhill- I started to think i missed at 15 yds...until seeing the blood come bubbling out.
[threads are always better with pics- right? /grin] i took this pic from where I was when I shot him [actually a COC 3 blade but they act the same]

Now of course if they make you on the shot they will run.

The good news is you have a lot of good choices on 2 blades.
On the Cheap end there is Stingers and Buzzcuts [I prefer the Buzzcut without the bleeders, better ferrule and better performance on bone] $28/3, Steelforce has a couple different models.

The VPA heads are excellent- great design, high quality carbon steel at decent prices $45/3 ...

Then you get into the top quality steel heads Iron Will, Cutthroats, Silver flames, Bishops, etc and those start at about $33 each...up to $100 each....

Lots of good choices

I’m with you on the 2 blade Magnus Buzzcuts. I like the ferrule setup more. Completely different design.
