Best arrow to fit my size and bow??

I'm currently trying to find the best arrows for shooting deer and elk in Montana using a Hoyt carbon defiant 34. I currently shooting at 70# with a 31" draw. I'm looking for a great speed to penetration ratio. By draw to poundage limits my arrow selection slightly.

The best 2 arrows I could find to keep speed and penetration at its peak is.

Carbon Express Mayhem Hunter 350

Easton Da Torch 330 (w/58gr brass insert)

I also found that a arrow weighing in at 440-455 gr is the happy medium for Kinetic Energy/speed/ momentum. Am I right to be looking at my arrows like this? I've been told that 500gr arrows are the way to go with the way I shoot.

Axis 260, black eagle makes a 250 spine, think gold tip may also. I've kept coming back to Easton myself. FMJ come in dangerous game which is 250 spine also. Talk to Jerry at SouthShore archery on AT as southshorerat I think. He can hook ya up with given specs and what you want. If I were you I would go 550 grains with as much weight up front for higher FOC. What kinda speeds are you getting now?

I'm seeing speeds between 280-300fps depending on the arrow. I would like to find that point were speed, weight, and energy meet. It seems like everyone has their favourite arrows and that's what they want you to use, but with all the different arrows out there belief there is the perfect arrow out there.

The different CX350's are fine from my fastest 60lb bows at 29", but I think adding 10lbs of peak weight and another inch might be a bit much.

You might want to make a pass at the shafts with a .300 spine, or even stiffer. Especially if you are loading up the front of the shaft with a brass insert, etc.

I have BA X-impacts in 300 and 250 for different setups. The 300s are for shooting with the bow backed to 60lb for field and the 250s are for hunting at 70lb.

I have OT2 and those worked out perfectly for spine and FOC. The bow is 350 IBO

I looked them up earlier actually but didn't read any reviews. They are meant to .0025 which is pretty damn straight but if the reviewers have checked them and found them out of spec, I'd be cautious. It depends how much you trust the reviewer. Its not beyond imagining that companies post bad reviews of their competitors products. I guess if your shop has a spin tester you could check them before you buy.

I just did the quick calculations which doesn't give the true speed, but a 500gr arrow does 278fps and a 470 does 288fps. Now really, the fps isn't much of a difference, but the kinetic energy is the same damn near. Where I found to have a high KE and speed is a 450-460gpi arrow. So am I wrong to think like that. I'm working on finding that happy medium placement.

Your specs are very close to mine. I'm at 65# though at 31" dl. I've crunched numbers like crazy also trying to find that perfect arrow. The range is wider than you think. I have 2 different arrows that I can range from 400 to over 500 grains depending on point weight and insert weights. I like the 425 to 475 range for myself. For you, at 70#, something between 450 and 500 grains with an foc around 12% would be extremely lethal. For anything you would hunt. I would also recommend .001 straightness arrows because you and I don't have much carbon to cut from our arrows.

I'm currently working on ordering 6 different arrows to do a 60 yard plywood test on them. Each arrow is cut to 30.5". I currently only have 4 picked out.

Black Eagle Rampage 300

GT Pierce Platinum 250

Victory VAP TKO low torque gamer 300

Easton Axis 300

Gold Tip Velocity 300's with a 50gr insert, and a 125gr head would build you a shaft right in the 450-460gr range. At your specs, it'll be a smoker arrow and a good blend of speed and KE.

That's what I shoot, but only 30 gr on the insert and mine finish at 430gr. My setups push them 285fps. Yours should be in the 305-310fps range. That would kill anything on this continent and not slow down.

Trying to stay away from the high end FOC arrows. Plus my setup should be around 295 fps if the calculations are right. But hey only will know the truth once I put the arrow to the string.

Just so everyone knows that's following the is I will be using muzzy trocar 100gr broadheads showing plywood with 3" Styrofoam glued to that to do my test.

And I added Easton FMJ to the list. Arrow will weigh in at around 520gpi total.

So I was just practicing with the new arrows for the test and adjusting my sights per arrow. I didn't even get a chance to adjust anything because at 30 yards the victory VAP Gamer low torque 300 got nock and spine taken out by the GT pierce platinum 300 on the second round of shooting. These two arrows I was shooting at the same target because they are almost the same arrow. First set the had the same placement switch was 2" low of the center of the target, second set was dead center but definitely did not go as planned. I should be receiving a new arrow shortly and I should be able to complete this awkward test by the end of the month.

OH and I've been playing with the new Muzzy hybrids, Im very much impressed by everything Ive throw at them. Im going to try a bleed out test on them hopefully sunday to see how they do, but as for penetration into a soft BLOCK target, straightness of flight compared to field points, and the sound the broadhead makes in flight, all were very impressive. At this point Im going to using the hybrid for hunting whitetails and mules this year, but it comes down to that bleed out test. I shouldn't really be shocked from a muzzy product, but with them going to a MECH broadhead I was suspecting performance like their M.O.R.E. turkey broadhead. Boy was I wrong to think like that!

I have a set of Black Eagle (Rampage?) 250's I am in the process of tuning. they are cut at 31" with 75 grain brass hit inserts and 100 grain points.

I haven't weighed them or chronoed but I will probably come in at around 470+ grains.

#70 bow and 30" DL

I was and still am concerned they are over spined, but I just started playing with them.

My other #70 bow shoots 32" Beman ICS hunters with aluminum inserts and 100 grain points well. but again I don't have an actual arrow weight or speed.
