I am looking for some feedback from some seasoned vets on the best hunting bow setup for under a grand? I am a lefty with a 28” draw.

Any comments are much appreciated!

The accessories can easily double the cost
That's the big part......getting a good bow for under a grand is easy......getting it ready to shoot for under a grand is harder. I'd go to a pro-shop that has used bows. Call around first and then buy the used bow from them and tell them you want to buy ALL the accessories from them as well.

They make more profit on accessories so maybe if you find the right bow they will deal on the price since you'll be spending about $400 in accessories and that leaves you $600 for the bow. If you are hunting it'll be cheaper to get going but if you are shooting target it could get pricey.......especially if you want a quality setup.

So are you shooting for fun, maybe 3D and hunting or strictly target? Or what?

My proshop had a Revolt X for $650 with a great hunting sight, peep, rest and all. So another $100 for a release then all you would need is a decent stabilizer & arrows you'd still be under a grand easy.

If you are just getting started you could get away with any type shooting with the RevoltX.

PS there is no best........

Look at the PSE Drive NXT. I have one and love it. Quick enough, easy to tune, 7" brace makes it a dream to shoot, etc, etc, etc.

Being a lefty it all depends on your draw length. I'm getting my son into shooting but he is 31in draw length so took us awhile to find a bow that went that length and for a decent price.
ended up getting a Realm X for 600 at a pro shop and got a discount on the rest since we bought from them so out the door for 725. On classifieds we found a Spot Hogg four pin sight for 60
a wrist release for 80 and dozen arrows in 340 spine for 100. I already have arrow saw and stuff to fletch my own arrows. But you could buy a few arrows from Lancaster that will be less and come already for you to shoot to save you a few bucks. And can find a good bag target for 50. So I think it can be done for just a bit over a 1000 or just under if you do some research.

Are you a new shooter or do you have some experience? Can you set up your own rig or do you need some assistance? Used and classifieds are fine if you know how to set up and tune yourself. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself then going to a proshop will be well worth the extra money that you would save from the classifieds. Proshops often have a decent inventory of used bows also. If you end up going new, the Hoyt Torrex would be on my short list. I personally prefer the Torrex to many of the flagship bows this year.

For white tail hunting, back yard shooting, and going to 3d shoots:

Used bow from classifieds 60lb draw weight (make sure it has an adjustable draw length via rotating mods.) - $550
get a very basic fixed pin sight like a true glow or trophy ridge - $80
peep sight - $10
get a whisker biscuit rest - $40
shoot something like Gold tip hunters (base version) - $120ish for 12 built arrows
get a cheap stubby vibration dampener like the apex gear dampener or equivalent - $40
find a used release - $100

*** maybe a new string would be needed so figure an extra $150 this will make the bow feel new.

Looking for some items used other than the bow could either get this done cheaper or with higher end components. This setup will hold up as you get better at archery, it will not become obsolete in the first year. The first thing I would upgrade is the sight.

Also at this stage of the game don't get hung up on bow brands, they are all excelent and shoot better than 99% of archers. Just buy a model from one of the big companies. I would not get a very short bow that is less than 30 inches axle to axle or anything that is marketed as a "speed bow" .

I would recommend a used flagship bare bow and buy your accessories separate. The brand new fully set up mid level bows seem like a great deal but in my experience you’ll want to upgrade your sight for sure and probably the rest so you are paying for stuff you won’t use. The exception would be if you were able to find a used flagship with higher end accessories already on it, but being left handed that might be a challenge.
good luck and enjoy the process.

This isn't really advice....As a beginner archer this is far from simple.

The best bow is the bow you keep for a while, don't mess with, and shoot the heck out of while getting instruction.

The only goal should be developing a solid and consistent shot process.

For a beginner it's about staying in budget while getting decent equipment that won't change much over time, then working on becoming and archer.

THEN you will have an idea of what equipment you get along with best

Check out Bear Archery they have a few really nice budget bows that compete with some of the high end brands. I bought a brand new Bear Whitetail Legend Pro for just under 500 bare bow from my local shop. It has the Eko cam with adjustable letoff up to 90 percent and they shoot great. If your into solo cam bows they make some nice single cam bows ready to hunt for under 600 bucks and they have a Ready to Hunt bow for 2022 called the Resurgence with the Hybrid cams also. most companies making bows today are making good stuff its just personal preference. Good luck with your search!

Ya the Bear Legend bow lineup even with accessories will easily get you under the 1k mark. I went with the Alaskan just last week. Spent $900 and the accessories were top tier. I’ve shot/bought flagship and they are nice. But the declined value as years go by has made me question the 1k or over price for a bare bow.
Just please for the love of God don’t get a Ready To Hunt Package. You’ll be swapping out accessories before you know it. Get a bare bow and pick what YOU want.
Also used route is good too.

I would recommend the Bear Resurgence RTH package.... I set up a customer a few weeks ago with one. RTH Package Bow ($629.99), Release ($69.99) and a dozen Arrows ($127.98) = Less than $900 out the door.

I don't have any lefties in stock but could get one fairly quick...

OP joining a local club is a GREAT idea. You meet people learn the good pro-shops and shoot other people bows and get to know the local scene. It's a great way to get more info fast. So is this site but you have to have a filter.............lol. In all honesty you need that filter at the local clubs too.

You'll have the same good & bad advice there that you have here. Use your head and filter out what makes more sense and go with those folks. Good luck

I have found a couple of bows in the classifieds that would easily come in under $1,000 total. I bought a (actually 3) Xpedition Denalis (34" ATA 7" brace that are fast and forgiving) for around $400 ea. I bought a Prime Hybrid with extra cams and limbs for $325, sold the cams and limbs for $150 so I only have $175 in the bow, I bought an HHA Kingpin for under $200 (lifetime warranty), a QAD fest used for $70 (lifetime warranty, a Stan Shootoff for $140 (lifetime warranty). I would look for a used Bitz Fletching jig in the tools section and buy some WalMart Mossy Oak arrows at $4 ea. I suggest you watch Samuel Whites YouTube video series on "arroe cost vs Quality) and refletch your arrows, and when you mess up a fletch you can replace 1 on your jig. You should have $100 left to take the bow to a shop and have it set up' WARNING: You need to know your exact draw length and poundage prior to purchasing a used bow as some bows require parts to get the bow where you need it. Some manufacturers make adjustable cams that can be rotated by removing 2 screws like the PSE Evolve series. Good luck

right now on ebay, you can get a ready to hunt leftover Bear inception left handed setup for $449....If I didn't already own 2 bows, one of these (in RH) would be in my stable..............doubt you'll beat that deal........brand new with warranty, just change out accessories as you deem necessary at your discretion
