Hope somebody at Bills reads this and can educate one of your archery guys...

I called looking for some Maxima Red shafts. B Guy who answered told me they had the SD or short draw shafts and if I have a short draw they would work for me. UGH... I knew dang well that the SD shaft is a small diameter shaft...not short draw. I tried to correct...but as usual at Bills..they know all and the average consumer is a peon and therefore clueless..

So...https://carbonexpressarrows.com/products/red-maxima-sd?variant=30681003340

I guess CE is wrong and have misnamed/labeled the SD shafts.

Ya...im ranting and its not that big of a deal, but this type of misinformation at Bills is routine and this isn't the first, second, or third time when I get corrected, knowing they are wrong....

Sorry dude but I would have to say this is not at all fair to Bill's Sporting goods. I have been dealing with them for years, and like most bow shops they don't know it all. The fact that he didn't know what the some marketing abbreviation was on, one particular brand of arrow shaft is hardly reason to come out on an open forum and call them out. Quite frankly that falls in the really freaking trivial category if you ask me. You're not even sure who you talked too, and the guys on the gun side answer the phone more often then not. Their Bow guys are solid, and most of them have been there for years. They absolutely are not perfect, and he may very well have thought what he was telling you was correct. None the less it was a pretty simple mistake and in comparison to the shops in the area, Bill's is no where close to the worst.

Oh and for folks not familiar, they call themselves a sporting goods store but really its just hunting. Rifle and Bow shop. It's not like Dicks or Gander.

Very good info Gary as well, no telling who was filling in or where they came from, but a lot of shops do need some help with products and we try to utilize our sales reps to help and educate our dealers on our products so we know the public is getting the best information and they have good knowledge of our product line. Thanks

Seriously? You can come to those conclusions based on what the OP posted here? You've got enough information that the guy is an idiot and needs to leave the industry out of this post? I've been in Archery 30 years and I wouldn't be able to tell you what the "SD" was. I've looked at CE's stuff, but there are lots of arrows with lots of stupid acronyms out there. Probably wouldn't try and sell that it was for short draw if that indeed really happened, but seriously this is a big "so what" for a shop that is probably one of the best in the area.

Along these same lines I get wanting to have your reps educate your dealers, but reacting based off of what some guy says on the internet doesn't sound like a real good use of their time, but hey whatever works for you.

Here's my thought, take it for what it's worth.

I don't expect the guys at my bow shop to know everything, or even to be completely unbiased about products. Because the fact is, I don't know everything and I'm a bit biased about certain products. So I don't have the right to expect someone else to be different. However, I feel like if there is some dispute with something like this (Short Draw vs. Small Diameter) the best thing for the shop to do is look it up. Make sure of the information. Don't just act like what you say is fact.

Now, I probably wouldn't come on here to air things out. I may go to the shop and respectfully say something or show them the correct information, but be polite and informative. Maybe the guy would be grateful that you let him know so he could be correct the next time someone comes in and asks about it.

An educated bow hunter supports his local shop so when he wants to upgrade bows, use the range, shoot a league, or if he ever needs warranty parts, there is actually a dealer in business locally that could help them out....

I go to Bills all the time ( for years ) talk to Mike you can't base an entire shop on a guy who answered the phone !! Top notch !-oh and by the way I called south shore archery looking for cams but got no direct answer and was promised a call back ( never got it ) but I shouldn't base my opinion on one phone call ;)!!!!!

It is one thing to not know about a product that a customer is asking about. But its completely different to recommend a product that is in stock to a customer that is completely wrong. All shop employees should know the basics about everything that the shop carries. If they are answering the phone, they should be able to answer all questions within their department if it is a gun & bow shop like described. The archery employees should not answer gun questions and vice versa unless they have a solid base understanding of the product being stocked in the store. I wouldn't expect any of the employee's or owners to know everything about every product. But if it is in the store and they are recommending it to customers, they better know what they are recommending.

Arrow Shop is a great place. I'm originally from Bville and first met Fred and Patsy when they were in the old Cardinal Food Store. Sure has changed since those days.

Honey Creek Outdoors is also a favorite of mine. Doesn't hurt they are directly across Hwy 59 from my house...lol
