Bino/Rangefinder Chest Pack WITHOUT MAGNETS

Hello all

I have a brand name bino/rangefinder case that I really like for shooting 3Ds. However, when hunting last fall the closure magnets caused significant errors with my various compass devices. Since I am usually going deep into and out of public land in the dark this was a significant issue for me. As I start looking for a replacement I find most use magnets as "silent closures". Anyone have any suggestions what options to start looking at?

Thank you!

I had the same issue.

I used a Mukey Freak Game Changer this year. It's okay, but not worth the price. Quality isn't what my Marsupial Gear was.

I'll be looking as a marsupial no-mag for next season. I've waited a long time, and those jokers just aren't going to expand the color options for that line. Time to break down and buy one.

This probably won't be a very popular recommendation, but I've just used Vortex's basic bino harness and put one of the straps through the loop on the back of my rangefinder case so they're connected that way. No magnets of course, but it doesn't look too fancy either lol.

Marsupial no mag, or the kuiu.

you have to hold your nav devices pretty close to the magnets to cause issues, it’s a non issue to me, as long as you are aware, it’s not a big deal, imo, but there are options if it bothers you
Just as an FYI, ran a little experiment with a regular compass and a Marsupial Gear harness this year as I ALWAYS carry a compass for just in case. When the magnet got within 7 feet it started causing errors on the compass. Also had issues with other devices. Magnets are a hard pass for me.

I’ve got Kuiu old style and the Pro, Marsupial, and Alaska Guide Creations. The AGC is my favorite, it is a little big but does everything well and has pockets where you can legitimately carry a few small items where the others are really only the bino’s.

I can't stand those magnets. Whoever came up with that idea definitely doesn't do much backcountry hunting. They never hold the case closed well enough to keep the rangefinder/binos from getting bumped out of the case. I really miss good common sense fasteners, like a little hook and a bungee loop.

This past year I was having a couple issues with my marsupial and went back to a kuiu pro I had laying around, and I didn’t like it that much, and like my marsupial, it squeaked pretty bad… not as bad as the marsupial was, but bad enough I didn’t want to mess with my binos inside 50yds of critters.

sounds like kifaru is going to design one soon, I’m curious what they come up with, but if it’s fleece inside, I won’t be trying it. I don’t know if it’s the moisture in the air on the coast or just my binos, but fleece squeaks with my NL pures (didn’t with slc’s) and did with kowas.

i’m not changing binos anytime soon. I don’t mind magnetic harnesses either, and for my use, the gen 2 OV harness is my favorite I have tried, and they are silent getting binos out.
