I've been bit by the traditional bug and have been looking into which bow to buy. Are the Black Widows worth their price? Do you get what you pay for? I love the looks of their bows, but looks doesn't make it a shooter! Help me.....

Everything you see advertised anywhere is usually not worth the price aka.
M.S.R.P.......? But, I've owned and shot almost everything BW make at one time or another including X-99, X-101, X-200,Target bows, 1200 T/D
Ma series hunting bows and more. Yes I've shot PSE, Hoyts, Wings also.
BW's are very fast, very stable, balanced extreemly well and overall "one"
of the best 2 or 3 ever made. They still represent fine American craftmanship.
Try to find any good bow slightly used. Take your time. Get good pictures and you will be just a happy as if you bought it new.
Carefull Chad, you're making way to much sense there !!!
BW History, value, price

Ok, I learn easily; In my opinion, BW's were developed when the Wilson Brothers bought Gorley Archery in [I think the late 50's or early60's ].As a very young man at that time, I was fortunate to have known and shot with Don Gorley. The Wilson brothers set in place their own specific philosphy, somewhat prevelant in that day, of building very high end accurate and fast bows. That thinking and the commitment to "non production" bows was also present a little later in Hoyt, Wing and Bear. Of the 4 brands mentioned above, only BW still is almost completely non production style except of course for those "production" steps necessary to speed output without sacraficing the overall "hand built" product. BW and Bear also are [I beleive] the only one's mentioned that were never bought out by coorporates ie. AMF ect. So why are BW's [both new and used] priced the way they are ? :
- The value of a product is what it will bring."Marketing 101"!
- Good shape 60'-80' BW's shoot as well as todays BW's.
- Once BW found the best overall shape and style combination they "stuck with it". Todays BW's look very similar to my restored and completely re built 1970 BW 1200 T/D. I wouldn't trade it for a new one.
-Exotic woods were allowed then. Many BW's and others were Brazilian
or African Rosewood as well as other exotics.
-Based on their history, shooter loyality, reputation, quality and even geographical location they can!!
-Their reputation is as good as their product.

Just my opinions.. Bill W.
