Well, I can never leave anything alone and am always trying something out so I am now trying out the Bohning Blazer 2" vanes for hunting use. They weigh 5 - 6 grains each and after I take off my feathers and wrap, the weight change is almost nil. After I get to feeling better from being sick, I hope to see how they handle my Magnus Stingers and other BH's as well, especially the Snuffer. I did some research on the net and it seems like everyone is real happy with these vanes and if I like the results, I will change to them! We'll see. ;)

I'm still learning here, so pardon my ignorance. I thought larger (4-5")
vanes provided more stability in flight, with fixed BH?

Not so?

Milsurp,
The Blazers have a slightly higher profile and are stiffer.

I use them and think they fly as good as I can shoot them.

Blazers

Jerry,

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

I've been shootin' em for a while now and also use stingers. I shoot the 100 grainers. If i remember correctly your shootin the 125's, don't think it'll make much of a difference.

Gonna do a little piggie huntin this weekend. tryin to start the year off right (hopefully with a kill), but startin off right none the less. ;)

Good luck, hope ya feel better soon. :(

Later

Hey Jerry, I will be interested to see how you come out witht he blazers. I am going to try them myself. I shot some thru the chrony the other day compaing them to my quickspins. I am going to fletch up a few arrow and try shooting my broadheads with them. I will also cut my arrow wraps in half, this is going to really help my foc out too. I ran the results from my chrony results thru TAP, it showed that the blazers held more KE at longer ranges than my quickspins did.

Thanx Dave, I felt a tad bit better today. I did get the bow and the arrows I fletched with the Blazers as it was eating at me how they would shoot.
The controlled the 85, 100 and 125 grain Stingers with no problems. The problem I had was fletch contact on my TKO rest. So I had some fishtailing out to 20 yards. I went in and got my Extreme VFT and reversed the forks on the TKO and tried that with cock vane up and it was much better but would need fine tuning. I dont want to mess around with my Patriot set up now as I am still hunting.
My initial thoughts so far are I like em! I am anxious to see what they do at 50 yards. I might set my Extreme VFT up for using the Blazers so I can do some testing. I shot thru my McKenzie many times and the vanes held up great! Not a wrinkle one! I was impressed.

G-Man, thanx and good luck on your hog hunt !

I just put the TT original on my ExtVFT and she shoots straight now, no contact. I could have messed with the arms on the TKO but for now, I will use the TT to play. Those vanes are pretty durable as I nailed them time and time again with the Saunders combo points and not one hole or tear!

Last week there was A lot of complants about not getting these to stay on your shafts, this scared me off the blazers are you not haveing any problemswith this?

If someone is having a problem getting blazers to adhere to their shafts, then they are doing something very wrong. These vanes hold tight to every shaft, wraps or no wraps, that I have tried them with. But then again, I have never had a problem with any type of vane holding. Its best just to learn the proper way to fletch rather than try to find a vane that will hold with the prep methods and glues you are using.

My blazers are so tight to the shaft, i have a hard time getting them off. I shot blazers throught a Whisker Biscuit for 3D and hunting and NEVER had a vane even start to peel back, much less come off.

I prep the vanes with acetone, and use Loctite Quicktite glue. I realize Bohning says you don't need to prep the vanes, but personally I prep all my vanes regardless of brand, and have always had great results.

Here are my blazers on ACC's . . .

BTW, I setup a Supertec with a Whisker Biscuit for this season and used these arrows for hunting and they were AWESOME. This setup was so fast and accurate that I plan on shooting a few FITA rounds with my hunting bow this summer just for fun. These thing flew great out to 90 meters. Really impressed me. And they also fly great with broadheads.
