On August 20th at Chickasaw Archery in Shepherdsville, KY we will be holding a Bowhunter Challenge 3D shoot. The shoot is specifically for bowhunters or those that shoot bowhunting equipment. I wanted to have a shoot that would allow hunters the opportunity to check out their equipment prior to the September 2nd openning of Archery season. All target sets will be within reasonable bowhunting yardage and there will be some ground blind shots. We will shoot only animal targets that can be found in the state, primarily Turkey, Deer, Bobcats, and Coyotes. Classes will be Hunter Novice, Hunter, Traditional, Womens hunter, Youth Hunter, And Cub. We will also host a hunter/archer yard sale. We will have concessions and several novelty shoots. I look forward to seeing everyone, please come out and see us.

The only equipment restrictions are that you must shoot fixed pins if you use a sight and that stabilizers not be over 12". Oh, and No BroadHeads.

Bring out your old archery/hunting "Stuff" for the yardsale and come test out your hunting set-up on the next best thing to the real deal.

Chickasaw archery is located in Shepherdsville, KY off of Highway 44 West on Pitts Point Road. Send me a PM if you need more specific directions.

Thanks,

Rick

Updated Info for this Sunday's Shoot

Chickasaw Archery Club’s
Bowhunter Challenge
August 20th, 2006

Chickasaw Archery Club is hosting a 3D shoot exclusively for bowhunters. 30 targets set in scenarios that you might find while hunting in KY with a bow and arrow, at distances that you’d actually shoot. Targets will consist of Reinhart whitetail deer, elk, turkey, bobcats, and coyotes and just because of all the reports of recent sightings in the state, a mountain lion or two. We will shoot down in hollows, up hillsides, through tight spots, from ground blinds, and off platforms.

We will also be hosting an outdoorsman’s yard sale. Bring out your new or used gear that you don’t use and put it on display to sell. Like they say, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. This yard sale will be held indoors inside the clubhouse.

In addition to the 3D shoot and the yard sale we will have novelty shoots, 50/50 jackpot shoots, and door prizes provided by archery hunting organizations and retailers.
Classes for the shoot will include:
Hunter Novice- This class is for those new to 3D shooting and/or hunting or those who are just getting back into the sports. Sandbagging won’t happen so don’t go there! Only true novice shooters in this class please.
Hunter- this class is for the seasoned bowhunter /3D shooter. (40 yd Max)
Senior Hunter- Class for guys 50 and over using compound bows with or with out sights or releases (40 yd Max)
Hunter Limited- This class is for the compound shooters that shoot with fingers and without sights. (35 yd Max)
Traditional Hunter- Class for those that shoot recurve or long bows, no sights, no mechanical releases (30 yd Max)
Women Hunter- women’s class for compound bow with or with out sights, with or without release (30 yd Max)
Women’s Traditional Hunter- Women’s class for traditional recurve or long bows without sight or release (25 yd Max)
Youth Hunter- Class for young hunters, boys and girls ages 12-16, using compound bows/recurves with or without sights or release (30 yd max)
Cub- Class for kids, boys and girls, ages: old enough to shoot to 11 yrs of age using compounds, recurves, or long bows with or without mechanical release. (25 yd max but only on large targets)
Open Equipment Shooters are welcome to come and shoot the course, however there will be no classes or awards available for those who use this equipment. Sorry but this one will be all about the bowhunters!

Trophies will be awarded to each class that has 7 or more shooters, All Cub’s will get participation medals, and Youth will get Trophies regardless of numbers.
Sign-ups 8:00 am to 2:00 pm

All Classes will be limited to the use of hunting type equipment. Stabilizers must not exceed 12” from the point of attachment and all tips must be screw in or glue on field points. There is no restriction on fletching length due to the popularity of new smaller “Broadhead” vanes. Please, NO BROADHEADS!

Our goal is to provide a realistic practice setting for bowhunters to test out their hunting set-ups and skills prior to the September 2nd Archery Season opener as well as to introduce hunters not familiar to 3D archery, to a game that offers opportunity for year round honing of archery hunting skills. In addition we want to promote archery and especially hunting in our community. It would be a blessing to see as many youth, women, and seniors come out to join us at this event. We especially welcome kids who are involved in the NASP (National Archery in Schools Program) and 4H. Our environment will be family friendly and no lewd behavior, crude language, nor consumption of alcoholic beverages will be tolerated. Having FUN with archery is what its all about!

Directions: I-65 to Exit 117 Shepherdsville/Mt. Washington, West on Hwy 44 past Mac’s convenient store (on Rt.) then past VFW post (on Lt.), Left on to Pitts Point Road. ½ mile on left look for green sign with white letters. For Questions, Call Rick Lewis Jr. @ 502-921-2158

Thank you!
