Looking to get a bowtech target bow. Has anyone shot both the older reckoning and reckoning Gen2? Is there much difference between them? I'm just getting into target bows and trying to decide if the extra money for the Gen 2 is worth it or not. Thank you in advance

I have not done any of my own bow tuning before which is part of the reason the reckoning and reckoning gen2 peaked my interest. I dont have a bow press either, so thats another thing. But with the ease of tuning these bows it would be a good lesson for myself in bow tuning. Been doing all kinds of research on them and just can't decide if the extra money is worth it for me just starting with target bows. Another thing about the reckoning bows is I can always use it as a backup to my hoyt ventun 30. Thanks for your input

If you are just getting into target archery, I would say no. Like veritas said, if you like to really tinker and fine tune things then it will be worth the money. Lot's of fine tuning and tweaking can be had with the g2 without a bow press. Most entry level target archers, honestly will never use those features.

Thats exactly what I am learning. I have been shooting bow for a while now. Im just getting into target and/or crossover bows . I'm currently shooting archery league with a hoyt ventum 30 and just want to get to the next level. Thank you for your input

I own both the 35 and the 36. I like the adjustable grip on the 36. The timing adjustment feature on the 36 is neat but can be accomplished in a press which I own. I am shooting the 36 for indoor spots and the 35 for 3D. Both feel very comfortable in my hand and shoot well.
Good luck with your choice as they are both fine bows.

Get the Gen2!
You may not know how to use all the features available on the gen 2 now, but you will.
You don’t have to use all of them, but they are there and will be available if and when you need them.
If you get a gen 1 you will ( if you get heavy into targets) want the features that are available on the gen 2 and you won’t have that option.
As the owner of a gen1 reck. 35 ( and I love it) I have to make compensations with the parameters I have on the bow.
With the gen 2 I can try anything I want because the bow provides it.

I own both the 35 and 36. I also installed the Tim G grip at 9 degree to match my 36, I also added Lucky Stops tp my 35. My 35 is way better with them additions.
I like both of them if I had to pick just one it would be the 36 but that just because it is newer and has the adjustments.
I have my 36 set up for Vegas and 5 Spot and the 35 will be my 3D/Field bow

Thanks for the input. Currently looking between the 35 and 38 right now.

I’ve shot the 35 and 38 and just picked up my Gen 2 36 yesterday. I messed with it for a couple hours last night to learn how the mods work, timelock, etc. and I am blown away. You can set it up it exactly what you want. Not just get it close and settle, exactly. If you have any mechanical aptitude and money were no option, I would go with the 36.
Mine will be set up today and there will be pics.

That sounds great. Excited to see the pictures. I ended up purchasing a 35 from a local bow shop. Figured I had to get my start somewhere and this was easier on the pocket book. But really loved the 36 and all the features, just unreal. This will be my 1st bowtech as well, so hoping for the best. Depending on how far I get into it, I just may end up with a 36 gen2. Shooting the 35 and 36 yesterday they both felt good. Little difference obviously but not bad. I really liked being able to adjust the grip on the 36. Was a simple adjustment, but gave it a better feel. So will be getting a new grip for the 35.

If you plan to keep the bow for a few years, definitely buy the Gen2. I have the original Reck 35 and just got the Gen2 39. The Gen 2 is infinitely adjustable and very easy to tune especially for someone that does not have all the tools. In the long run, you will save money with the Gen 2. Good luck..

I ended up with a used reckoning 35 and have a question. I was timing the cams today and noticed the previous owner wrenched the stops super tight and dimpled the backside. So, where the stop screw it has a simple now. I'm not exactly sure how to explain it. My question is, do they have to be that tight to not move? Or were they over tightened?
