Has anyone gone from an Atlas to Bowtechs new Reckoning 36 Gen2 and have some insight? Any other long draw shooters out there looking to do this either for 3D or Hunting? Im looking for a new hunting bow and have not shot either one.

I haven’t shot the atlas in a couple years, and my recent test drive of the new reckonings was pretty short because I’m not in the market. But I was very impressed with how the reckonings drew and held. If I was looking for a bow, they would get a hard look.

As a long draw shooter, don’t be afraid to explore target bows as an option for hunting if it has the specs you need/want. I’ve been hunting with a “target bow” for years.

For me I prefer the Atlas draw compared to the 35 and 38 (shot the 35 own a 38) I prefer not to have a drop in my draw and the atlas has much less and is a linear draw as what I prefer but is been a year or so since I had a atlas in my hand for hunting I would shoot them side by side for sure and get FPS with your draw and arrow specs that would be best

Reckoning every day for me but I’m a Bowtech fanboy. You can hunt with a Reckoning but comparing a target bow to the Atlas hunting bow is apples to oranges. The Bowtech Revolt XL from 2022 and the SS34 released last month are better comparisons to the Atlas. My son shoots the Atlas and loves it, I own two XLs. It’s the best hunting bow I’ve ever owned - smooth draw cycle, holds great and the deadlock system is a game changer. The new SS34 is a sweet shooter! I’m not a fan of the Mathews draw cycle and shallow valley but that’s just me. If you can get your hands on whatever interests you and put some arrows down range that would help you make the decision.

I have been using my Xpedition Perfexion exclusively to hunt with for the last 8 years.

I am just concerned that the revolt xl being 33" ata and me having a 32.5"dl, the string angle will be too severe so I had ti check the Revolt xl off the list.

My draw length is 31.5”, an inch shorter than yours but close. The new SS34 has a 34” ATA and actually has a longer riser than the Reckoning. Really stable at full draw. The Reckoning 36 held and shot shot really also.

I have seen draw force curves for the Gen2 bows and it seems they have completely removed the dip present on the original bows.

My father is law in debating this exact switch right now… He says that for him the Gen2 is a better option for him as the let-off adjustability without changing mods, but instead flipping the mod is a game changer… He also doesn’t have a press and loves the idea of Time-lock as well.

If that’s true I may be in a 36 or a 39 later this upcoming season but I will definitely be shooting one and many of the target bows this year I need to get a bow that fits me well and my 38 I shot my highest 3D round with but the hump i didn’t like

I have no scientific testing, but owned a 38 and just got a 39. The draw is drastically different in my opinion (on smooth, never shot the 38 in performance and won't shoot the 39 in performance). Really smooth, nice and linear. I'm gonna have to find a way to soften up the wall though. I've heard that you can put the draw stops from the old reckoning onto the new cams and it'll work.

Even on the "soft wall" setting its too firm to shoot a nice back tension shot. Needs a little more give.

I shot my 38 on both performance and comfort both had a significant dump in to the valley in my opinion it didn’t bother me till I got a bow that had no dump at all now it’s hard for me to even shoot my 38 after if they got rid of the dump I probably will get one. Interesting on the stops I shoot my best with limb stops probably because when I was leaning to shoot back tension I was shooting a limb stop bow and shot a ton of holding weight (25 is where I shot best with that bow)
