I have a Streamlight Protac rechargeable that is pretty darn bright. Came with red and green filters for it. Use it a lot.

 

A good headlight is hard to find nowadays.
I too use red the last 200 or so yards. But not bright. I use the low setting.

Further out from my spot, i switch to green. Sometimes way away from my spot, close to truck, i may even use white.

look at the stuff sold specifically for coyote/predator hunting

the little hiking or hunting headlamps sold with red light as a bonus feature are all too dim for me

i'm in my 40s and hunt off trails in rugged terrain....i need light or i'll fall and tear an ACL or something

 

The peak duo is the best I've found.. I have a light from adventure 77 thats pretty good but nothing like the peak. Only thing I don't like about the duo is you have to Cycle through the white light to get to the red . The 77 you can go directly to red by holding down the button ..

 

Sounds like this may be the ticket. One review said they could see almost 30 yards with the red light. Even if I got half that I would be happy. Thanks!

I use the Energizer one, plenty bright for walking in or out.

 

That's what I use but from the post I'm thinking he wants a lot more light. I like as little as possible.

Agreed with the Princeton. It has a low beam and high beam for red, it’s great

 

I have a Black Diamond headlamp (400 I think) with a white beam, white flood, and red flood. If you're using red and you turn it off, when you turn it back on you have a red light. Seems to work pretty well. Not sure it would be bright enough for the OP, but it would be worth a look.

At least you don't have to cycle through white to get back to red when you turn it on.

I use this Princeton Tec Remix. It has four modes... Spot High (white), Spot Low (white), Red High and Red Low. Couldn't imagine needing anything else.

I know this is an old thread, but I just use a real small 1 inch diameter light and aim it down at my feet. I make so much noise walking/tripping in the woods, it does not matter

Dog starts barking 1/2 mile away when I start walking across the wheat stubble or cut milo field..
