From what I've read green is the brightest, but other than green what are the brightest?

I tried blue and it wasn't nearly as bright as green yellow or red.

A study done by our Federal government back in the late 70's (before night sights came out) indicated that green and blue were the easiest colors of front sight inserts to see in low light. Red and orange were the worst. But I can't see the blue either. Green is the best.

Green, in all pin sizes, is brightest without a doubt. Gets sketchier from there depending on your background. In good light, against a dark background, I like Green, Yellow, Light Orange. Blue just disappoints, as does lavender. Red is very visible in bright light...almost too visible, as it often has a glow or halo effect. As mentioned above, you tend to lose yellow/orange against many targets/backgrounds in the west. For example, harder to see a yellow/orange pin against a pronghorn or elk than it is to see green.

In really dim light, red is pretty much worthless. Green shows up best followed by yellow/light orange.

Also matters what fiber material you use. Most stock fibers are not so good, chosen for durability as much as brightness. Move to a pure acrylic fiber, and all will be brighter, but not as strong. Move to ToughFiber, and you get max durability and max brightness. I retrofit all my sights with that stuff. Big 'thumbs up!'
