Browning Dark Ops trail cam woes

I purchased a dark ops cam a couple months ago off ebay for a pretty good price.

Have been using it since september-ish just behind my house with varying levels of frustration.

First it has the worst hair trigger I have ever seen. The camera picks up every little tiny movement from anything in it's field of vision. That tiny weed just moved a millimeter? Better take 100 pictures of it. Windy days.... forget it.

It will basically drain the batteries while it tries to fill the card up taking a picture every minute. I have tinkered with the settings with not much luck. I have also moved the camera several times but the sensor always picks up some minor thing and fills up the card with junk images. It also appears there is no sensor sensitivity setting either. Kind of at my wits end with this thing...

I am running duracell procell AA batteries. I was going to switch to Lithium but I (had) such a large inventory of the procells I figured I might as well use them... well 2 dozen AA's later...

What do I need to do with this thing? Any advice? Send it to browning? Scrap it?

Thanks,

Id send it to Browning. Something is obviously wrong. It helps if you point your cameras north and keep long grass away from them. I have about 15 Dark Ops and I love them! I maybe have 1 or 2 that seem to have a bit more "personality" that the others but they all work very good!

Send it in. If the next one is bad too. Maybe its time to try a different company? There are a few lemons with every brand.

I have 3 browning dark ops cameras in the field now. They are great. One of them I have low on an oilfield pipe so I was afraid that grass blowing would trigger the camera but it has done a good job only triggering on animals.. All of my cams are still on 80ish % battery after 2 months.

I would say there's something definitely wrong with yours. Call Browning.

I am running 16 of the Dark Ops and I have only had 1 camera give me issues. I sent it back to Browning and they replaced it for free. Give them a call.

Agree with most of what has already been stated. The Dark Ops is my favorite Browning camera but they are sensitive with movement from foliage so I try my best to to chop down any tall grass or small branches that the cam may pick up on windy days. If you’re certain that you’ve set it up properly, send it back to Browning. They usually just send out a replacement

I would say that Each Model can Vary as to how good that Model is as well as what Year That Cam IS! I have a 2014 DARK Ops that did the same... So I wanted better and got away from Browningfor a while... But I will Tell You that the 2016 & 2017 Browning Spec Ops is 10 Times Better than the Dark Ops and The Video is also much Better as it is 1920 x 1080 I Think well above the Dark Ops as well as all the other Cams I Have Used. But the 2018 Spec Ops is Not as good. I sent It back the Replace is Better but Now I Use it where tall grass and tress is not in it's field of view. It is not as Bad as the 3 Coverts I once Had... I gt 375 images and only 75 had an animal in the image... I found the 2016 Spec Ops for 130.00 and the 2017 Spec Ops for 130.00 and 8.00 for S&H... When some are still asking 179.99 if they have them...
Call or Email them and get Your Help they have decent response time as to their CS... I would send it in since you have not had it long. and not out of warranty you will need a proof of purchase...
Also No 2 Users of Cams use them in the same enviroment and why some think it is decent and then others have issues... Just the way it is...

I got 2 on a Black Friday deal last year, not impressed for the $ and I got Them fairly cheap. If I paid Full price I think I’d be upset. I’m sticking with bushnell essentials. Can get them on sale around $75. Batteries last a year. Quick trigger. I like Them. To each his own.

Same here. I had a dozen Browning cams, mostly the Strikeforce cams, and had varying issues with them. Browning was always good about replacing them but...why should I have to constantly replace new cams? I have 2 Bushnell 6 mp TC's from like 10 years ago that still work great, so when Dicks Sporting goods ran a sale where you could trade in an old cam for a new Bushnell and get $30.00 off the price, plus the sale price, I traded in some of the Browning's and got some E2's. These cams are much better than the Browning's in my opinion. I even ran some tests by placing a Bushnell and Browning over the same feed pile in the winter to see which performed better under the same circumstances. The Bushnell crushed the Browning. Sometimes the Browning would only take one or two pics of a deer, like 10 minutes apart, while the Bushnell was getting 30 pics in the same 10 minutes. I don't know why but the Browning had a hard time picking up deer on a corn pile 8 yards away. Hopefully, before they stop selling hunting stuff, Dicks will run another sale like that and I can complete my transition by trading in the rest of the Browning's.

I have 2 dark ops, virtually useless night photos, if the deer is moving at all it’s totally blurry, not to bad on false triggers and day photos are good, I get good battery life too. If I corset them to day only that would be great!

Just an update...

I tried some Lithium batteries and the camera is performing 100% better. Still has a hair trigger but has taken thousands of pics day and night with no issues since changing to lithium.

interesting, I have loved the browning cams, have 4 strikeforce, and another cheaper one, they've been great, but this year one started acting up, the internal battery went bad, everytime you turned it off it would reset the time and date, its 3 years out of warranty so browning wouldn't do anything, which I totally understand, they offered me an upgrade at a discount and the one I kinda want to try is the dark ops, because of the infrared flash
