Buying a decoy. Primos Scarface vs. Flambeau Boss Buck?

I have decided I want to learn how to hunt during the rut using a decoy. However I am on the fence between the Primos and Flambeau. The primos scarface has a moving head and realistic tail that will move with the wind, however I don't think it looks as realistic overall and I have heard the stand kind of sucks. On the other hand, the Flambeau appears to have an overall more realistic look to it but no motion at all. Both are about the same price at Fleet Farm right now, so that is not a factor in the decision.

Can anybody with experience in this area share some opinions and reasons for why I should buy one over the other?

DSD posturing buck.. Although it's quit a bit more then those..

I used the Flambeau decoy a couple years ago.. But it was first year trying a decoy.. I didn't have any success with it.. Many factors involved the land I was hunting wasn't the best.. So I'm not sure I would say it had a fair chance.. I considered buying another one this year. Since I gave the other away to a buddy of mine.. But ended up buying the DSD decoy.. I had been thinking about buying one for a few years and to me there is nothing that comes close in realism then the posturing buck.. I won't be using it for a couple of weeks yet be here is a picture of the head just out of the box. It doesn't do it any justice when you see the body it is amazing the detail that was put into this decoy..

I can relate to this.. Same thing I did.. But now after seeing the DSD in person I sure wish I would of just bought it first.. But i understand where your coming from. There not cheep.. But honestly in my opinion the other decoys are cheaply made.. Let me know how it works out for you.. I'm in the process of trying to figure out what filming equipment to purchase.. I want to film some hunts with the decoy.. Hoping to get some good footage with it..

If your not in a hurry I'm going to my lease this weekend. I keep all my stuff in a storage unit while I hunt.. But i can send you some good pictures.. And if you have a Cabela by you they are supposed to be getting there shipments any day.. Some sheels have them in Stock as well. The sheels by me had 3 the day I called and reserved one cause it's a hr and half drive one way.. But by the time I got there the other 2 were sold..

I bought a Scarface last season & it has been great. The way the legs connect to the body is far more durable and easy to assemble/disassemble. The base has been great for me, not sure what happened to the other posters.

The material that the Scarface is made of was the best I examined in the stores as well. It is softer so it doesn't clunk around NOR does is get dented or scratched. You'd have to examine them in person to see/feel the difference in the plastic material on this decoy. The legs, the moving head, and the material that the body is made of were/are 3 items I did not see in any of the other decoys.

I tried the primos scare face decoy in Kansas 3 years ago and had a big mature 9 point come in (probably 230-250 field dressed) and look at the decoy for about 2-3 minutes then turned around and left, he was a very large bodied buck and the only reason I could think of why he didn't get any closer to the decoy was because he didn't see it as threat, so I ended up selling the scare face and getting the boss buck an have had good luck with it........... I also presently attached the legs. ....... Let a buddy of mine barrow my boss buck when he went to northwest Kansas and he got a buck slamming into it on video........

I had a scarface and it was a pain to carry in and set up. I got a Montana buck decoy, it's only 2-D but it looks very real. I've fooled two big bucks with it. It tends to scare off does and small bucks so I wait until the rut to use it.

My scarface has held up well, had it for about 5 seasons. It is pretty quiet, goes up good, is just a pain to get all the pieces back inside of the body. The head does not really move in the wind, but the tail does. My stand is still working fine. It has fooled 4 good bucks over 140" in the last 5 years. Spooked a couple too though, I think that is part of using decoys though. It is fun when it works out right !
