LOL it is a mass mailing marketing/gimmick to get you in the store. Your not going to get an "actual" employee discount.

 

I'll bet he gets close to, if not exactly, the employee discount.

 

It is 20% off full price items, if something is already on sale the employee discount is useless.

 

That's about what it is at Bass Pro as well so my guess is that you are close to correct.

 

Your biggest discount is on cabelas brand items.

 

It used to be 40% on cabelas brand now I'm pretty sure it is 20%. You are better to find things on sale

 

My SIL works for cabelas and her discount varies. Cabelas stuff is 40-50 percent. Name brand seems to be all over the place. Some is 20 percent and some stuff she can get below cost. If I ever want anything I have to email her the exact number to find out what it costs

everything is different. in the past, firearm purchases were 5% and so were other non Cabelas items. Cabelas items were 15% the last time I used mine. not really that great of a deal when their prices are already inflated. I only use these when I use my points from the credit card rewards as well, otherwise to the garbage it goes.

 

It varies on the item and the employees length of service. The best discount is employees with 7+ years service. Their discount is cost +5%. The other discount structures are nowhere near that, but it really just depends on the item.

 

It all depends on the products. The cabelas brand has the best discounts. I bought a quad but only got $200 off it with the discount.

Three tiers of discounts. 0-2 years is one, 2-11 years is another, and 11+ years is "cost + 5%." The first two tiers depends on the markup that the individual products get. Generally, the first category is 10-20%, the second a bit more. Generally, sale prices are at or a bit better than the 1st category. Cabelas name products have the best discounts. Not sure about guns and boats/quads as discounts are different with those items.

 

BTW, the "employee discount" cards that are sent to various people (friends/family of individual outfitters, usually) are the first category, so that of a 0-2 year employee.

 

Just got home from Cabelas. Total waste of time!! The store is picked clean! The are doing a store wide inventory on the 5th of January so they are not doing much restocking, plus I hate getting hit up as soon as I walk in to sign up for a stupid credit card with a 20+ % interest rate. The employees seemed pretty burned out and cranky to boot. Todd

 

Substitute any retail establishment in America for the word "Cabelas" in above post at this time of year!

 

I have great luck with their employee discount promos. Correct the discount is tiered based on products and branding.

It also applies to their bargain cave.

I took the plunge on a pair of 12x50 Guide Series HD Cabelas Brand Binos. They were a display. They were already marked down nearly 40%. Had the colored sticker that allowed for an additional bargain cave 15%. I had a Cabelas coupon for $60 off a $2500+ purchase. Also got the employee discount at counter. Used my Cabelas card and got 20% bonus points.

Walked out with a $500+ pair of HD binos for just over $200...

 

Add it up you got just a hair over 50% off full retail price which most of these stores never sell the item for full retail price to begin with. IMHO that was not as great deal as you think it was but if it works for you then good.

 

I've found it to be minimal....

 

Then pay full price. Whatever works for you!

 

Does Cabelas actually pay their employee's enough to afford anything thy sell, even with a discount?

If your not working on the corporate end of Cabelas then your note making enough to shop there often..discount or not.

 

I bought a new Stan release at Cabelas at the last one. It was 209 retail, and it was around $50 off of that. I was happy with that for a new black shootout stan release.
