I wouldn't think it would help much for rabbits. For squirrels I think it really depends on how educated the squirrels are but I wouldn't say its a necessity although I would think it could help some.

I grew up hunting squirrel and even as a kid, I could come home with a belt full on a good day. I never saw a piece of camo except for playing army. Same with larger game as an adult. I was taught it was necessary to be still and quiet to hunt. Practice that well and no further hiding is necessary.
