Tonight I saw either the biggest red fox I have ever seen or a cross between a fox and coyote. It looked like a red fox with a even bushier tail and about as big as a lab. So is it even possible for foxes and coyotes to inter breed

Can coyotes be color phase? I really don't have much knowledge about cfirfirst oyotes. This past summer while fox hunting was the first time I had ever seen a coyote around here

I shot a yote last year that was the exact same color of a red fox. I even thought it was a fox when I first seen it. Mine was way more red than the one above, im talking about the exact color of a fox.

#17 that is one beautiful yote, congradulations on that dog.

if a red and a yote meet up, all that is gonna leave is a yote with a full belly

Not sure, but think this is a a Coyote

I shot this the other day in Southwest Ohio from my deer stand early in the morning. Mathews Monster a little over 50yds. I know, a 1 in a hundred shot, but still. From where I was sitting in the tree and when I shot, and the SIZE of the animal I was sure it was a Coyote, but once I got to it, it was red and I am not sure. Here are pics, and if you could weigh in, I would appreciate it. The only think I can think of is it's a mix of a dog and coyote.

Not sure if they can breed or not. Hate yotes but foxes are cool.

A yote would tear a fox up, they wouldnt breed.

I have seen yotes in red, tan or almost fawn colored, all black, snow white, grey, and combinations of them all.
I dont have any pics, but ive killed a few (not near as many as id like) off our ohio farm and seen even more than Id like to admit. They have really been puttin a hurt on our deer population.

Never say never. About 10 years ago I raised pheasants. I had an issue with animals and I only had about 12 hen pheasants left and had them in with the chickens. I had a banty rooster that had I think I can attitude when it came to breeding. He was mounting the hens. I checked with guys I knew, I checked with breeders, I checked with hatcheries. Every single person I talked to said it would never happen. A chicken can never breed with a pheasant, wrong they can the hatch rate was under 10% survival was under 10% but I had chesants about 10 of them. Sold them at an exotic animal auction.

Do you have pics?

Looks like that dog had a hairy nub, either a birth defect or got shot and and ended up losing it later in life.

Never seen a K9 chew his way out like a **** will.

We've shot coyotes here in Southern Illinois ranging from blondes to blacks, reds, greys, browns...etc. I assume it's just from cross breeding with dogs.

I hate trapping. Pretty lazy way of hunting of you ask me. I'm not a big fan o letting something suffer in a trap while it waits for you to come back.
Thank you for your opinion! Posting a comment like that on a hunting site isn't the smartest thing to do! Ever consider that many bowhunters may be trappers as well?

All the pics I have seen on here so far look exactly like a a picture of a coyote out of an encyclopedia. Couldn't get much more looking like a coyote than anything else. They come in all different colors and body sizes. The one trapped is a beautiful one, but pretty normal coloring and size. Just a perfect coat. The one shot with the bow is just a baby. Only reason it is so small. Not any more red than any other coyote.

Why do people always speculate they have seen something never created before when they see something they have never seen before? Manbearpig.
