Cell phone GPS systems

I am getting a new cell phone and it is compatible with the VZ Navigator GPS system for $10 a month. I was wondering if this system is meant mostly for directions for traveling by street or whether it can be used for the woods so that you can enter coordinates for stand locations tracking deer, etc. It is pretty easy to get turned around in some of the areas I hunt and thought it might be a cool feature to have without having to carry a separate GPS system, which I doubt I would really do. But for a $10/month fee for 2-3 months a year, it could be useful. Is anyone familiar with these to offer any input.

i believe they are only loaded with street map style GPS

That what I thought. The guy in the Verizon store was able to pull up the current lattitude,longitude coordinates. Too bad it didn't have a compass feature that could lead you in a stright line between two set locations. That would be so useful and probably require less technology.

people usually get a new phone every year or two. just buy a handheld unit. there is no monthly fee and you'll have it a lot longer than you will your phone.

I've got th versizon navigation on my blackberry and its really great as a tool for driving to various locations, resteruants etc but I dont' thing it would be great in the woods. Mine does not even work in the area that I hunt. The Navigation service does not extend as well as their phone coverage.
