Strand of cotton thread tied to something on the bow so it hangs down, then fray it out so it catches the wind better. Unwaxed dental floss will work. It's not going to show thermals like something that floats will.
Awesome...I just ordered some pods off eBay. Haven’t thought about there. When I’d do a google search it would take me somewhere to get the seeds to grow yourself. I’m not into that. Thanks for the ideas.
There is lots of cotton grown around here. A couple of strands off of a boll will float if there is the slightest of air movement. It makes it easy to see the direction and how the thermals moving.
Windicator powder is about $5 and mine has lasted me a few seasons. I leave it in one of the zippered pockets on my hunting pants so it’s always right there.
I have been using fly tying yarn. You can get any bright color you want, works very well. I pull small pieces when I first sit down and stick them to my jacket for when I need it, Barry Wensel taught me that little trick.
I've been using milkweed as a windicator for many years. I go through a lot of it. I know of nothing that grows around here, that works better. With the availability of pods on E-Bay, anybody, anywhere can experience the benefit of using milkweed. This is a good thang!
I ran out of milkweed and picked up the ozonics wind tracker. It's light and easy to see. I got white. They have orange as well. Some kind of synthetic I'm sure.
I use cotton balls stuffed in a 35mm film canister (For you younger guys ....That was camera film before digital cameras existed ;-)). Cut an "X" in top and pull out tiny bits of cotton ... like 2 or 3 strands. They will float a long ways.
I use kids bubbles. Less than $3 from Walmart gets a ton, and I have some really small bottles from the craft or wedding area. Can see the bubbles a long way, most of the time farther than milkweed. And I'm not stuck trying to find milkweed.
