Anyone use a chest rig or bino pack in place of a backpack when treestand hunting? Reason I ask 8s I'm thinking of trying a marsupial gear or hill people gear pack for quick hunts.

Similar recent thread, so I just copied and pasted my reply there:

"I very seldom carry binos on my whitetail hunts because of the locations of my stands and also due to carrying a rangefinder on every hunt. (I own two Sig Kilos). However a few years ago I was looking for a solution to carrying a pack with my climber to have the basic necessities along such as RF, knife, field dressing kit, folding saw, haul rope, flashlight, spare gloves, tree hanger strap, TP, etc. Camofire happened to have a daily special on their Alps camo bino harness for turkey season, which included a long attached pouch for a box call. Lightbulb went off and since it was only $30, I "pullled the trigger", After it arrived, I did an online search and ordered a matching RF pouch to go on the side, then moved the long box call pouch to the bottom. For about $42, I got a very functional system that has worked great with my climber....and gradually morphed to other forms of bowhunting. You can sure spend a lot more....I don't know to what extent you really gain?"

I have this exact set up as well. I love the pouch fastening system. No magnets so it doesn't mess with a GPS and is very quiet. I gave my marsupial harness to a mate after getting this one. I use the turkey pouch for mosquito repellent.... I'm in Australia.... The mozzies carry you away if not covered.....😂 As a bonus it was only $40 on Amazon delivered to my door... bargain.

I have a marsupial harness I love it for western style hunting, but for treestand hunting I greatly prefer the rick young harness. It is just much simpler to use undetected if you have deer close and need to look at something in the distance. I also like having my rangefinder the same way and higher up on my chest.

I have an Alaskan guide harness. It has a range finder pouch which is nice. Its held up extreamly well over 3 seasons. With binos and a range finder space is limited but you can carry a few other small items. Defintaly doesnt alow you to get rid of your pack for anything other than quick sits bit it does allow you to down size.

Best bet too, go visit your local Bow show or hunting stores... that way you can try before you buy. Some have their quirks and nuances. I like the original Alaska Guide Creations packs, which were also sold from Vortex for a while too. The Kuiu is nice and light, yet does not have a ton of features. Same goes for the Stone glacier, very minimalistic. Just take into account everything that you would like to carry with you so that you buy what can accomodate. As a last note, the AGC Stalker back pack Stalker Hydration Pack – Alaska Guide Creations can be mated to a regular Cub or any other ACG bino pack to make one hell of a sweet minimalist rig.
