There is no set distance. I prefer arrows to make it as far as the front of the riser for broadheads. But not necessarily. Shaft length and point weight are both excellent ways to finely adjust spine. I keep mine wherever they spine out.
As long as the arrow spines correctly, and the bow has a hard back wall. I cut them about 1/2" in front of my rest, or less depends on what you are comfy with
