Any tips or tricks for color blind guys tracking blood trails? If it’s a faint trail I need the light, sun or moon to make it shine otherwise I am struggling to see it.

I have the same issue, red does not show up well on brown and certain greens. My dad taught me to read tracks and be able follow game by following their tracks. It has helped me numerous times when blood trails were difficult to follow. My son has excellent eyes and can see the smallest specks of blood and between the 2 of us we work well tracking.
The way I was taught, was pick a set of tracks and follow it as far as you can. This can be done any time of the year. It gets tricky when there are several deer in the area. Fresh tracks ( less than a few hours old) stand out once your eyes are trained what to look for.

Interesting about the glasses in the article. I bought the Enchroma glasses for colorblindness, and they didn't do crap! i should have known better. The ad shows people putting them on and say, " oh, I see purple, etc, etc. " How the heck did they know what purple looked like if they had never seen it before? Anyhow, the glasses in the article mute other colors and bring out the red. Maybe they might help me blood trailing. Money back guarantee for 60 days.

I have been using rose tinted glasses for years while teaching combat tracking, long before Oakley caught on and designed the Prism line. It makes reds (desert sand) and green pop better and helps maximize light and dark contrast. Depending on what color you see red in, they might or might not help. If you see red as grey it will make the grey darker according to a student that had the same consideration. The school master David Scott-Donelan developed a very good method for tracking in complete darkness using night vision goggles and IR chem lights. You could literally run on the spoor in the night using the technique. I doubt your average DWR guy would be impressed. Read: night poaching. Not cool.

I bought the Enchroma glasses as well. Didn't help a bit. Sent them back. I have tried every gadget out there but no luck. Over the years I have figured out that to be successful I have to go real slow on my hands and knees. Night time tracking is easier when I use a bright LED flashlight than daytime. But the best thing is a friend who isn't color blind who is willing to help!

I’ve dealt with it my entire life as well. I suggest a good snow coating, lol. But seriously, I have always had to count on friends to help me out if I don’t see it go down. I do have a thermal scanner to help me out with watching the deer post hit, it’s helped, but it’s definitely not an end all be all solution.

I had a friend that was color blind.....it's crazy. I shot a deer and the blood looked like a horror movie......an over the top one at that......and when I took my buddy there to see it he was like.........what? Had no idea the blood was even there.

I'd get the peroxide and make it bubble. I don't know if the stuff that turns it blue would help?

That’s for all the feedback. I’m likely going to try the peroxide trick to see if it works. Obviously the first option is to make a good shot and watch it go down but some times they hit those thicker areas and you cannot see them for long enough to watch them go down.

Years ago I saw a hunting video with Bob Folkrod. He had some thread tied to his arrow kind of like a bow fishing rig and when he shot a deer he just followed the thread. Even with a pass through the thread was still in the deer. Just a thought. Hopefully you can get something that works for you.

It is called Game Tracker String Tracker, it screws in to where some people screw a stablizer in ,
I use it all most all the time and always for Turkey's as I am color blind.
does not effect arrow flight out to 30 yards.
A complete pass through the line will peel out twice as fast then if the arrow is still in the animal
I use a little piece of electrical tape on the arrow where you tighten the string on where the broadhead screws in, that way bone will not break the string..

Some archery shops sell them

where it says robot or human that is a walmart link to a string tracker

How much string? Some deer can go a loooong ways.

In the same boat. I've spent time tracking with a few buddies and really concentrated on what they see and it has helped me, but it is a slow process. Hands and knees for sure. Last year I shot a doe and tracked her for about 80 yards in 2 hours. She back tracked on me, which i figured out, but lost her trail. I was in a high overgrown field and waited for my buddy to arrive at the last spec of blood I found. He walked into the area and said, 'well, you hit her well'. I asked why he said that, and he said, 'Looks like a murder scene where you're standing with all the blood!'. We found her about 20 yards away 10 minutes later. I also have the glasses, not sure of the brand, but they haven't helped to date.

I guess they have made improvements on the String Tracker...........when they first came out it sounded like a screaming fishing pole reel..........I heard that and said NO WAY in hell.............lol

2500 is a lot of string. What is the strength of the line as fishing line? 50 #? 100#? I'm thinking if the deer takes twists and turns, the string will break somewhere along the way. What about the tracking lights for anyone who is colorblind?

it tells in the ilnks I provided yesterday
some are 17# and others are 30#

usually the line does not break until after the animal stops, the line settles down into the brush, and then the animal takes off again..and if it breaks it will usualyy break off at the arrow

as to deadquiet with them making noise, My brother had some off-brand string tracker and it made lots of noise and one time he was shooting at a deer and all he saw was a big red blur at the shot as it had red line and it all came out at once :ROFLMAO:
