BEWARE!!! MUST READ REVIEW!

I wanted to share my experience at Coshocton County Outfitters. My two hunting buddies and I booked a hunt with Coshocton County Outfitters that were really excited about and here’s what happened…..
For those of you that have hunted in Ohio before as well as those of you who haven’t, you’re hunting in Coshocton County Ohio. This area is known to be outstanding for good reason. The farms are generally going to be good unless overly pressured. However, we realized after getting into the woods that the stands are setup for crossbow guys. This was notsurprising since the owner is vocal about his preference for crossbows over compound bows. Once in the stand we quickly noticed the deer were acting super skittish and well aware of our stands which I can only attribute to pressure.
Besides the skittish pressured deer, the main problem is the owner. Mike comes off as narcissistic, abrasive, and overconfident, and he doesn’t respect his customers experience or wishes. It’s his way or the highway.
After cleanly missing a buck on my first night there, (the buck ducked an arrow being shot from a stand he was well aware of), Mike (the owner) literally cuts loose on me and saying things like, “At 55 I’m too old to be shooting a compound bow”. Believe me when I say I’m a proficient shooter who practices regularly. Any bow hunter knows that things can happen when shooting at a deer even if you’re a perfect shot.
He kept the tirade going well beyond the “I’m disappointed stage” literally yelling loudly enough that all the guys in camp could listen to the conversation. I would have appreciated a private conversation and whatever point he was trying to make was taken right away so there really was no reason for things to escalate the way they did. But this guy Mike just wouldn’t stop. It was so bad I threw my dinner away, because I was upset and had to go outside of the main lodge to cool off. The owner now pulls up in a side by side and tells me he has to see me shoot before I can go back hunting?!?!?
What?!?!? Who’s paying who here? All because I shot over a pressured buck that was looking at my stand from the moment it walked up.
I decided to entertain his unprofessionalism since I’m confident in my shooting and requested we shoot right there and then, he said no, “tomorrow morning at 9:00am”. Obviously, I was intending to be in the stand the next morning at 9:00am and I object.
He then tells me I have to leave his camp. * At this point I haven’t broken any rules that were agreed to when he was paid. I was on a vacation I’d waited for months for, and what happened was unreal. I still can’t believe it.
After I tell him I have some gear I left hanging in the tree, he has me get in his truck and we go get them that night. This is when it gets really Interesting.

On the way to the stand the guy accuses me of being an alcoholic!! I’m sure I don’t need to explain how this is totally unprofessional and inappropriate. How many of you reading this have had a drink while on vacation? Ridiculous.
You have to understand that Mike is an admitted, recovering alcoholic, something he’s not secretive about, and looks down on alcohol consumption in any form. (I feel like having a drink in his camp will earn you his disdain.)
Unsurprisingly, I respond with “WHAT? You don’t even know me, you know nothing about me. How Dare you!!!”
HE THEN SLAMS THE BRAKES ON HIS TRUCK AND WANTS TO FIGHT ME!!!!!!!
Are you kidding me?!?!? I’m paying this business owner and now he wants to fight me in the middle of the woods! Obviously as a reasonable individual I didn’t fight him.
The owner of Coshocton County Outfitters (Mike) is as unprofessional as anyone I have ever done business with, hunting or otherwise. I happen to be a business owner and I would never consider treating mu customers this way let alone trying to fight them.If you plan on going here be prepared to be ridiculed and talked down to. He literally feels that he’s doing YOU a favor by letting you hunt there.
I’ve been going on outfitted hunts for over 25years and have never experienced such ridiculously poor customer service, and out of line behavior.
It was so outrageous the two guys I went with left camp also. If you have any reservations about this review, ask yourself why two other guys that looked forward to this trip all year left at the same time. If I was out of line would they have left? Doubtful.
After making a call we were welcomed back to the outfitter we had been going to for a few years. @BrushyForkOutfitters at No charge to us, because of our experience at CCO.
Mike should do the right thing and return all of our money. But, being a low end outfitter, and struggling to grasp the concept of professionalism,I’m sure he will not. If you went to this place and had a good experience……consider yourself lucky!!!!!!There are Many great outfitters, @CoshoctonCountyOutfitters ISN’T one of them. Stay away!!!

Hey Cook...I've known you for years on here and I even bought a bow from you and your daughter at Cabela's parking lot in WV You have always been a great sport and easy to deal with etc. I too do 3 or 4 out is State hunts every year and it is hit and miss on what a hunt includes. In the end it isn't about the kill it's the enjoyment of the hunt and memories you make. On behalf of Ohio Deer Hunters I'm sorry you were treated that way. Thanks for letting all of us know your experience with this outfitter.

I would report him to the county DA and local business bureau. File a civil suit as it seems there were many who heard his tantrum. Report him to the state fish & game people or whoever issues guide licenses. FWIW, I never hunted out of state and would only use a guide if required as some states.
Sorry this happened but bad news travels faster.

Wow that’s where I am from. I grew up there. I will be making a phone call back home to find out the deal with this a hole. Sorry it happened. Not everyone from there acts the same and I’m embarrassed to call that my home state.

Thanks for the heads up!!! I can't believe a guy running a business for outfitters is sush a clown and disrespectful like that!!! I'm glad you all made home safe!! This guy is truly a disrespectful clown to treat a person that is paying him for deer Hunting, and to disrespect you for having a compound LoL , that right there tells me how much he knows!! HaHa,,,,all day long too. And for those who might accuse me, no I never took steroids or any of that Testosterone replacement stuff. I know I'm gonna need it soon, but not now. Nothing against steroids, they help people. But I don't even take aspirin if I can help it.

Yeah something like that. I mean *** is with this guy ? If he said it to me ? I'm 65, I woulda said to him, so you're a real bad arse with a bow huh ? Let's go to the range, I'll be shooting 80 pounds, you had better too. Let's lay down 75-100 arrows and see how you're feeling afterwards.

As bad as your experience was, you may end up on the short end of the stick...again.

How?
Well, I think the arguement could be made for deframation of character by land owner and business owner.
The fact that you chose to lay out your issues on social media, might give them grounds to file suit against you.
It's not like it hasn't happened before.
Just a thought...I could be wrong...

I have had some bad experiences which has soured me on ever using a midwest outfitter again.

I prefer the camping or 'stay in cabin' and hunt public land type trips now.

I do it on my terms (ie dont have to deal with annoying goobers in camp, people who came to drink with their buddies, or blow hard outfitters) set what I eat and my own schedule and success rate is about the same but the feeling of accomplishment is there

I read this a few times and got a bit more irritated each time. I was there when you were there and my overall response is WOW! It takes a lot of nerve to write all this. If you were not happy sure write about it, but man don't make stuff up because your angry! Don't spread out right BS. I have been hunting with Mike and Teresa for many years and I keep going back because the experience is outstanding. To be more clear, and reiterate my point. there are many, many of us that return every year and have become friends through CCO. When one of your "hunting buddies" as you refer to them arrived at camp and I showed him the cabin he was staying in because Mike was out showing others the locations they would hunt. "a day earlier than the hunt is panned and paid for I might add". Your "hunting buddy" in a round about way told me about your previous experiences and they seem to tell a similar story about how you engage with outfitters. The stands are one seat ladder stands with a flip up shooting rail with burlap hanging from them for additional cover. Almost all are against a large or even very large tree to add to the camouflaging for hunters that can't sit still. How this is a cross bow set up I am not sure, they are very much useful for both. Mike is a cross bow advocate and and for good reason. You sir just added to the reason! I have yet to miss a deer ever! Nor have I had to let the dogs chase one for miles. How you blame someone else for your poor shooting is beyond me. You have gone so far as blaming the stand for the bad shot or the so called skittish deer ??? Really?? The idea, that the deer knew you were there, and ducked the arrow even further than it would have? That is a REDICULOUS and a highly laughable statement! (I am sure the deer said to its self " I will just be careful and if I hear an arrow I will really duck extra hard") LOL !! If the deer knew you were even in the area you were not going to see the deer. (at least if it is a deer you should be trying to kill). Maybe ,,,,,, a 1 or 2 year old might potentially come around if they sensed a human, but again not likely and for sure not a mature deer. YES, things happen, and it is hunting, and hats off to those that still want to use the compound or even the occasional recurve, but you sir are the problem. I have either killed or photographed and let walk 140 - 180 inch deer every single year at this exact outfitter and the deer were not skittish! Luckily, I probably didn't follow in the stand after you, because you shooting and missing and going in every morning pushing nocturnal animals out would for sure pressure the deer and you would have ruined that entire area in a hurry! I guess your perception of Mike is yours and I can't argue a personality conflict but I will tell you that you sir ruined many peoples experience including mine as I was uncomfortable entering the dinning area with all the tension you created with your behavior. Maybe you should respect the guy that is in fact doing everything possible to not pressure the deer. Instead you just argue! Remember I was there and I watched it all go down. Your story is not a good description of the true events! There is no way with your voice and your comments that I believe you should have been shooting a bow after dark considering your obvious drinking activities. You could have just said ok I will shoot in the morning and make sure my set-up didn't get messed up or something. Everyone in camp felt better after you left! Another very weird statement I can not wrap my head around! Mike is not an admitted recovering alcoholic. He has never been an alcoholic and he does not drink at all. Your comments are so far out of line it just makes me not believe one part of your words! Not one single thing I can verify is accurate. How you think it is ok to go on a public format and trash a person after I watched how you behaved and how you reacted is incredible to me. The world progresses each year and life gets easier and easier but this is one down side of technology. The ability to do this activity you just did is way to easy and I hope people are smart enough to go read all the reviews and do some actual home work before they make decisions. There are lots of places to go and hunt and I have been to many! This is a great experience, way better than most! I personally have invited and networked with dozens of people that came to hunt with Mike and Teresa and they also enjoyed the time with Coshocton County Outfitters. Did they all kill deer every time no! Did they all have a great time ? YES! Just because someone has the right to say what they want does not make what they say true! It feels more like your a guy that is ashamed of himself trying to get back at someone else. I also would bet that the " hunting buddies" were so embarrassed they could not stay! I know I would have left if I booked with you as well. I sure wish I knew the fellas phone number I talked with for about an hour because I would love to hear his perspective. I sure remember what he shared with me and I expected you were an issue before you even arrived.

Whenever I read someone posting something like this online it only reinforces how much I can’t stand these kind of posts. It looks like the OP can’t resolve his own problems and has resorted to playground name calling. It’s cheap, childish, and wrong. Adults don’t do things this way.

1. The Name of the room you are currently in is called: "Outfitter and Guide Reviews"...........I Posted my review.

2. (narcissistic, abrasive, and overconfident) is "playground name calling" to you?? That was simply my observation of the owner. In no other place in my review did I name call, I gave my facts and that was it. Maybe you should re-read the review.

3. I have no Problems to resolve, my friends and I went to another outfitter done deal.

hey, I'm late on this just saw, I wanted to share my story as well, I booked a trip with the above outfitter in 2020 and I was sucessfull, however I re-booked with a deposit and more than 6 months before my trip I asked for a refund he said no, I then asked if I could do the hunt the following year he said no to that, as a small business owner myself, I found him to be unprofessional and I was very disgusted with his attitude.

So Mike just operates as a low end outfitter that basically after taking your money is just finished with you.
I’m sorry to hear about your experience, I would maybe suggest appealing to your CC company if you paid your deposit with one.
I’m sure Mike, has no policy on deposits. They will take it from
Him and return it to you
