Why does almost everyone say "crank" when referring to turning the poundage on their bow up or down?

I "Cranked-it-up" or "Cranked-it-down".

Sounds kind of gay to me.

During NASP the other day I told a girl that the Red bows were had been turned down and were set the heaviest, and the Orange bows were the lightest. She picked up a Red bow in one hand and an Orange bow in the other. She looked me straight in the eye and said, "They feel like they weigh about the same to me."

How 'bout when people use "gay" as a negative term?
I don't mean to start anything, sorry.
