is there a lightweight, compact portable crossbow press out there anywhere? something a fellow could keep in the pick-up or off road machine. if not, there should be...

The Nite Hawk is a well built portable press that packs up small. Ideal to take on a hunting trip.
It does take a bit of time to set up and when making multiple tuning and shooting it has to be
removed, then replaced for further crossbow adjustments which is more time consuming. Much
too slow if one was planning to use it in a bow shop. This press has an easy to turn adjustable
cylinder which does not require a wrench.
Two other portable presses which I have as starters were the Bow Master and the Turn Buckle
Compound Crossbow Press by Rocky Mountain Archery. This last one has to have the cylinder
adjusted with a wrench. Using the wrench puts it very close to the bow string which can be easily
damaged. I would not recommend the Bow Master for working on crossbows.
Of the three I list and have used, I recommend the Nite Hawk.
All the best in what ever you choose.

Guys I am a Last Chance dealer and I can tell you through experience it is a great press

But

you can't take it to the range, you can't take it to camp but you know when i get the most calls about having to use a press, at the range and at camp.

Most of you guys don't tinker a lot with your bows so this press is by far the best option. But even if you do tinker a lot this press and a table IMHO is safer and faster than trying to use a Last Chance because the risk of dropping the bow or it slipping out of the fingers is always present.

I purchased the Nite hawk press about 2.5yrs ago from Wyvern Creations and I love it. It goes on every out of town hunting trip I go on. I also have 6 or 7 close friends that shoot crossbows and I'm the string /cable replacement guy. It's worth every penny.

This is exactly why I moved on to Excalibur recurve bows! I never need a press for anything! But I do own a NightHawk press from when I did shoot compound bows.

The LCA Ezgreen can be used uncounted.
I lay it down on a flat surface. Then carefully adjust the buttstock up. Till the limbs are squared in the press tips.
The press isn't lite, or small. But it is portable.
I could press my bow with the ez green in the bed of my truck. Just another option, good luck.

I had a Nite Hawke press for my verticals and agree that it was excellent and I used it a lot. When I had to give up verts I sold it because I went with Mission crossbow which doesn't need a press. Kinda wish that I kept it now... Will they work with the narrow 10Pts and Ravins and reverse draw bows?
