there is a NAP Spitfire crossbow version and the regular version, they both seem to have the same specs. ? but different part #s ??? anybody know the difference?
the crossbow # is 60-696 = 1 1/2" cut , .030 blades
regular # is 60-234 = 1 1/2" cut, .030 blades
Hmmm.... :noidea: :confused3:

Last year before I got my Strykezone 380 and was shooting a Matthews Compound all I could find locally was the xbow Spitfires, one local shop owner told me they were the same...I didnt' buy it so I called NAP. NAP confirmed they were the same, I used the xbow with my compound, and coindencently guess what happened this year. You got it...Gander Mountain had the compound but not the xbow, so with my facts from last year I bought them!

I have 3 deer in the freezer. Get a shovel...these are cold hard facts.

Al, you've had reg. spits open? were they new , never shot? cause they can tend to open once they've been opened...

John, NAP confirmed that they were the same? I wonder why they would push em off as "crossbow" , they do offer a crossbow version thats 170 grn. spitfire though...

yep Al , sometimes I could get 2, maybe 3 shots out of em then one blade might open but mostly even after only one shot I would have a blade partially open, so to me , they are a screw em on new, kill a deer and trash em ! I may try try a fixxed blade after I use up what I've got

Same for me...what's the point of using a broadhead on a target and then shooting it at an animal? I bought Spitfire Edge 4 packs for the price of 3 at Dicks' and it included a 10 rebate from NAP. That makes them $7.49 each...if I have an animal in front of me that is not worth 7 or 8 bucks then I am not pulling the trigger.

I called NAP when the "crossbow Spitfire" first was noted on this board. The tech I talked to said the "crossbow Spitfire" was exactly the same as the regular Spitfire. They were getting a lot of calls asking if a special version was needed for crossbows and this label was a response to that. There is no difference he said.

Next season I will be going back to Slick Trick Mags. Shot from a SZ380 the Spitfire Max's can blow apart going thru a deer. The last doe I shot i found one of the blades in the rib cage when skinning. Every deer I have shot this season the ferrule has been trashed as well. That being said i still recovered all my deer within 50 yards.

Sounds like a great reason to switch heads

Same head as mentioned. There is a movement in the industry to label exiting products as "crossbow" for marketing purposes. Some are indeed suitable for crossbow use but were not specifically designed for crossbows.

THAT is interesting.

I wonder if they changed the rating initially and didn't tell their people about the change ... or, have they changed the friction bracket after hearing people asking about the "crossbow" rating and hearing that the blades open up on 380's? (The "non-crossbow" heads haven't opened prematurely on my 350's nor on my TenPoint Defender.)

Or.... it could be a pile of BS from someone that doesn't know from NAP and just gave an answer someone thought someone else wanted to hear... I say that because thats not what NAP told me.... told me they were the same exact head...
Marketing if you ask me!

Well, deer man, first of all, I am glad you 'fessed up. Took quite a bit of courage to do that. Thank you! :thumbs_up

Second, congratulations on discovering your error. It meant that you were going back and checking on things to make sure you had the right scoop. THAT is being conscientious.

Third, I checked with David and he had heard the SAME thing from NAP that I had heard -- which is the "crossbow Spitfire is the same as the regular Spitfire." I suspect that he would be one of the first to hear about a change if there had been one made to increase performance OR if someone at NAP had just discovered a problem. He has not heard anything new on the topic.

Fourth, I called NAP to ask them about the issue again ... got Chris' voice-mail (their "technician" -- and I think it was the same guy I talked to a few months ago and referenced in my post above about being told they are exactly the same head) but he has not returned my call yet. I suspect that he started his holiday weekend early and I won't hear from him until possibly the first day of work 2012.

My Spitfires will be "adjust to correct POI at hunting season time and record the change -- then change back after the hunting season for field points" and "once-and-done if I get a deer with a given Spitfire".

we try and teach are Kids/grand kids to tell the truth, and when we mess up ,don't cover it up .What i don't ever want to do is put out wrong information about a company's product.Im just glad i happen to catch my mistake . To All have a Great Holiday.

My experience as well, although my TenPoint doesn't push them nearly as fast. I swithed to the Spitfire Edge just because I hunt some thick/jungle like areas here in Florida. I need an animal to hit the dirt as quickly as possible, with copious, easy to see bloodtrails. The Edge is super tough and does the job perfectly.

Tiny52,,, I don't see a "Rage" against them here???? Just explanations and experiences ?
I think we can all agree we love em ! I do, I've taken 5 deer with them this season, and none went more than 40 yds. !,,, but with the side force put on them when they are opening and having to stop within 8 or 10 inches in a broadhead target , I certainly expect them to have issues,
At 380 fps.,.. I don't know of any mechanical could withstand repeated shots .
I have bought over 20 Spitfires this season, and have 3 new in pack ready to go , and have trashed the rest shooting them, and bought replacement blades and repaired several ,,, but ,, I need to practice shots with the broadhead that I'm going to hunt with , period!
They do not have the same poi as field tips and the practice blades do not fly to the same poi as the broadhead at distance, so I don't know about you , but I will practice with the real deal to assure my accuracy !

as per " instructions" and I quote...
"Retention clips and pivot screws must be replaced after impact has opened the blades (5) , five...times" ...( so, you're sayin I can shoot it 5 times? , NOT!)
" must be checked for debris and damage after every shot " ( every shot at deer or target? , both I'm sure , but doesn't tell me NOT to shoot at a target? )

Just Sayin...
Ya'll have a Merry Christmas !!

Hey Randy...Merry Christams. Sorry if I said anything to upset. I am a believer in testing new broadheads and new bow/arrow combinations. My experience is different than yours. My Spitfires do have the same POI. I haven't had a need to shoot them after I establish that. I wouldn't trust any broadhead without verifying it first.

Tom, the answer to me would be to redo the practice blades, make the blades exactly like the regular and lock em down with a second screw so they stick out like the broadhead , not just imitating the height.
Also how did the CE arrows work out? did you have to cull or "tune" em? or are they all same POI ?

Yep...massive damage. I'll be getting a new crossbow once I see the 2012 offerings. I am sure I'll be looking at a significant increase in speed, so I'll have to do some extensive testing them. Have you tried the Edge? Massive damage and I am still gettig pass-throughs.
