I am considering a new place for a DIY deer hunting trip. I have been going to Ohio, but I just like to roam around and see new areas, plus KY is just as close for me. I like to hunt remote areas away from people and do not mind walking any distance. I like to have the chance at a good buck (120"+) but mainly go to have fun with friends and see new areas and experience new things. I searched on here and came up with pretty much nothing, but thought I would try asking again. Does anyone have any experience hunting Daniel Boone? The closest area is the Cumberland district for me so that is where I would probably go.

I don't know about the Districts or where you are talking about exactly, but where I live in Whitley County the terrain is rough. It is mountainous and has some dangerous cliffs. Low deer numbers but some nice bucks taken out of the DB every year. I've only turkey hunted in the DB, but I here it's hunted hard in muzzleloader & modern firearm deer seasons.

If you re willing to come this far, IMO your best chance for a 120+ size deer is Western Kentucky. Particularly Peabody WMA, deer are plentiful and good chances at a P&Y or Booner there. I know guys that have great private land access and still hunt there from time to time because its just a great region for deer
just my 2 cents

I hunted DBNF several years ago when I wanted to be able to hunt with a bolt action rifle (we can't do that in OH). The first thing to do is find a property map. The northern part is only about 10% public land and the lower part is about 50%. So it's not the large expanse of woods that it looks like on a map.

I hunted SE of Berea. That area is hilly. But nothing that would scare off someone from southern Ohio or WV. There are deer, but they are harder to find because you don't have obvious food sources like ag. Plus they can bed anywhere and find water easily.
