Deer blow call

I am looking for a simple deer call that mimics the sound of a deer blowing. Might even be considered a snort but I am not sure.
Anyways so you are walking through the woods and you step on a stick and it snaps. The deer hears you then it starts to blow. Generally it is 2 blows with a pause in between. So that is the sound I am looking to mimic. I used to own one but apparently not anymore.

Electronic calls are against the law in my state but to each their own. Don't knock it till you have tried it.

Seriously, if I deer blows pause and blows again. The deer has not winded you but heard something. Now answer the deer back with a blow, pause blow and 9 times out of 10 that deer will show its self and come into 30 yards or closer.

Same idea plays in when you approach a thicket from the high ground, do a warning blow and keep your eyes peeled for a buck to raise his head and look around.

Now I have no experience with this method but it makes sense and the info came from an old hunter that does deer hunting seminars. So far he has been correct on how to set up my scrapes. I have had more bucks on my camera than I have ever had.

I actually made one when I was a kid. Go and find a stick about 1” around (4”-5” long). Cut it length wise so you have 2 half moon sticks. In the center of each piece carve out a 1” long x 1/4” deep divot. The longer the divot the more raspy it will be. Find a piece of white birch bark and peel away the most inner parts of it so all you have is a very thin piece of bark ( almost paper thin). A good sharp parring knife will help with this. Once your bark is ready, place it in between both half’s of the stick. Use rubber bands on either end to hold everything together. Trim excess bark from the body of the call.

Once it’s made, hold the call up to your bottom lip and blow like your blowing out a birthday cake. The harder you blow the louder it will be.

I learned to make these when I was about 10. It’s a good project to share with kids. They do sound like a deer blow. Have some fun and try it.

I usually watch alot of hunting infomercials while im in the stand. One time i forgot my headphones. Had the extinguisher video on loud volume. Had a booner 7 x 7 come in to 12 yards and look up at my tree while standing broadside. I didnt shoot him because E-calls are illegal in NC. But that thing works!!! :darkbeer:

I had one years ago that was dead on accurate, it strapped to my wrist, and only did the snort wheeze, name escapes me at the moment, no idea where it went to, I use to use it to stop deer dead in their tracks when they’d run by me, I found it more effective than grunting. Also when you use the snort, in my experience deer would stand statue still other than looking around with their head, the wrist strap I wore on my release hand and could use it at full draw,
