Deer Decoy Recommendation

I live west and hunt a private ranch I have permission on. Last year I borrowed a friends decoy and it worked awesome to bring in deer. I have a big field where the deer come out. It’s hard to hunt the edge they tend to come out because when you leave it will spook them. I just place a hay bale blind along a fence line by a hay stack.
My buddies decoy isn’t made any more and he’ll be using it the same time I’m hunting.
I know the Dave Smith is the most realistic but I’m not sure I want to spend that much. Which one would you recommend?

I have had good results with the Montana buck and doe, also the Flambeau, it is noisy to set up, but you can leave it in your blind already put together so that is not an issue

Not sure how windy it gets out West, I hunt Central part of the country(Kansas/Missouri) and a 30mph breeze is the norm, if open ground and if it is windy do not use the Montana's

Deer decoys can be hit or miss. I've had them spook more deer than bring deer my way. I have the Rinehart buck. Packs pretty good. The bag that is used to transport it sucks.

Primos Scar is a nice blend of the best BUT not overly expensive like the Dave Smith decoys. Dave Smith is the only one I have not own.

Rinehart buck is also nice, lots of movement, lighter, and works.

Boss buck and babe are loud and tip over IF not really dug into the dirt OR posted up on something.

Montana decoys are great, short being 2D. I use several at a time to combat deer getting behind them and discovering they are 2D as they vanish before their very eyes! Had more then 1 deer freak out when that happened. Use 2 or 3 decoys close at different angles to prevent that.

Ultimate Predator Decoys had a 3D collapsible decoy out, but the new owner discontinued them I believer. BEST by far. Realistic, super light, best movement. GOT 2 of them, buck and doe.

I even used the Cabelas blow up doll looking buck! Actually, brought in the biggest buck of my life, but I returned it to Cabelas THINKING I could find better decoys, which I have not oddly. Looking silly but fooled that 13 pointer! FOUND a photo of it!

I’ve used the Flambeau doe, I glued the legs on. Made transport slightly more difficult but took away the noise. I lost it in a 8” rain that flooded it’s concealment location. I still have a Montana doe decoy. It once brought in the biggest buck I’ve ever shot at. Shooting off my knees due to a sudden ice event, I hit a branch and shot under the monster at 8 yards 🥹 as he stared at my deke. Still sick over that blunder.

Another vote for flambeau….but epoxy the legs , replace the ears and tail with a white feather boa (can grab them on amazon for almost nothing)

Killed three good buck who fell victim to that setup

If you can find a carry lite on EBay snag it up.
I have used them as well as an old delta one.
The only problem with the carry lite was it didn’t handle the wind very well. Even with being staked down. My carry lite had been bit so many times the stake pockets were ripped out. Had to drill holes in the feet. A buck finally broke it up enough that it wasn’t usable again.

Now the old ready doe, she would stand proud and not a single stake needed.

Decoys can be hit or miss. For the most part does don’t like them. Calling and devoting can work decently for a buck out cruising around.
I have had a doe sit and blow for 10 minutes at a decoy before.

Melissa Bachman hunts with a Dave smith decoy a fair amount in SD. Or at least she did anyway.
