I’ve used just about every single brand and type on the market in the last 7-8 years. I started out with a Cabela‘s blowup Miss October I think is what it was called, and it actually brought in the biggest deer I’ve ever seen. I have used Primos Scar, The Montana 2D decoys ( which I think are awesome ), The Rinehart DoLoma decoys, Flambeau boss babe which didn’t stand up too good and I wouldn’t recommend.

The last two seasons I’ve been using ultimate predator decoys, and they are the best I’ve found. They’re kind of a cross between a 3-D and a to 2D decoy. They’re super light and effective. To me, the biggest drawback to 3-D decoys is their weight, which is why I tried the Rinehart diploma, and I liked them. But once I found the ultimate predator decoys, almost all the weight is gone And you still get the realistic movement and 3D aspect. There 3D decoy would be the Windrifter series, which moves with the wind and rotates, but it still as light weight as the Montana 2D decoys. And then I also use their stalker decoys that you put right on the front of your bow, and that is an awesome product that I used to take Deer with last year.

How small can you pack up the Wind Drifter decoy? How does it compare in weight to the Montana decoys? Thoughts are appreciated.

Yeah, I considered the DSD, but it’s just too much weight. The Primos scar worked great, I just was a royal pain to haul out to use it. Kept me from using it all that weight. If I had somebody to take it out for me and set it up though, DSD would be it!
I fooled around with the cheap decoys for a few years...finally saved up and got the one I really wanted...

last years buck did not make it far...

Have used the Rinehart DoLoma decoy for 2 years & has been amazing.
Have seen more deer than ever. I hunt private ground, so I am not packing/unpacking it very often. I will leave it lying under a bush if I am going back to that area the next day. I use it for about 2/3 weeks a year & it has held up very well.

I was thinking about putting one of my shoulder mounts on a t-post in some waist high brush so that you couldn't see anything but grass below his shoulders. Think this might work? (Archery season only obviously!)

My dad shot his best buck ever last year at 71 years old using our 2 practice Glendale bucks. Took the legs and horns off one and set it up in the food plot like a bedded doe. Placed the buck standing a few yards away. He thumbtacked some toilet paper to the ears to move with the wind.

I just laughed at him

After a few grunts, a giant stepped out from the swamp with ears pinned back, hair up, and headed right toward the Glendale. He said ended up taking the shot before it could destroy the target.
We’ve got a miss November and some sort of bobble head too. Never tried them.

Always have had good luck with my trusty Carry light...not the quietest or easiest to transport, but have been on the same farm, in fact the same field (opposite ends) with guys using both the Primos Scarface and DSD, and the buck overwhelmingly chose to come in and destroy my carrylight....of course there were likely other factors, but its hard to pass up for the money....dress mine up wit a white feather boa for a tail AND in the ears...slightest breeze gets in moving, lots of wind keeps them moving...I DO BELIEVE that was part of the enticement.

Good luck!

I tried one a few times and had bucks come unglued when they saw it from the back or front and the deer "disappeared" in front of them.

The reaction I get with the DSD buck is like no other decoy I have tried. It's a total pain to carry in but worth it

Montana's buck & doe combo pack got'em real cheap years ago. The flambeau was a little heavy and noisey toting in so, I cut the belly part out and placed the legs inside. Then they came out with a lighter version and simpler to carry. I like that DSD though.
