I have one of these that I bought a few years ago. The dimensions are off a little, but I got it at HF.

Anyway, I had to move it the other day in the garage and it occurred to me that with another one, I might be able to assemble a hitch hoist without any welding. The bottom piece is just an 'L' with a hole for a hitch pin on both ends. It could be flipped around to extend up rather than out. The other piece could be used as a connector for the second 'L'. It comes with the hitch pins. All I would do is cut one of the top pieces for the connector, drill a few holes and attach a winch and pulley.

I like the way you think.

I was going to make one out of threaded heavy conduit but it would have been cheaper to buy one made. This looks like it would work better. I will try to make one next week.

I dont think it will be tall enough. Mine is over kill but its about 8 feet from the ground. Seems like it would only be 4 or 5 feet off the ground.
