As promised, I have completed the Production version of my Deer Observation and Harvest Database, and it is now ready for download. The cost to you is nothing. That's right it's absolutely FREE. I hope you enjoy it. I know I sure have had fun building it. Here's the general overview from my original post where I introduced its demo version earlier this month...

I have been working on this database for over 5 years now. I think I have finally got it dialed in good enough to share it with everyone here. I would love for you to download it and begin using it as your hunting and herd management tool. It will require your PC to be setup a certain way though. Here's the system requirements:

1.) IBM PC only - It will not work on a Mac.
2.) Windows XP operating system is preferred. However, it should work on 95, 2K, and Millineum.
3.) It's a Microsoft Access 2002/2003 database, so it will also require you to have have Microsoft Office 2002 loaded to your PC. It may work with MS Access 2000, so you'll just have to give it a try.
4.) It's a large download (15+ mb), so a broadband connection is probably needed, unless you have all night...

The database allows you to capture both observation and harvest data by hunting season (you can set your own hunting season dates). It is primarily geared toward the person who hunts the same place(s) all the time. A private land owner or lessee is the primary target audience. But, you don't have to own the property, as long as you just hunt the same location(s) all the time.

In order for this database to work to its fullest capacity, you have to be very dilligent and accurate with your data collection and entry. It will require you to take detailed field notes each time you're in the woods so you can record them as soon as you get back to camp. This is all accomplished on a single data entry screen with drop down boxes and automated one-key selections. It also has a Stand Location database where you can capture detailed data on each of your hunting stands. And as part of the stand database, it also has a Treestand Locator feature. In this feature you can enter the current wind direction and the program will return back the best stand choices for that wind. There are also a dozen or more charts, graphs, reports, etc. It will also calculate deer herd population dynamics based on your entered data. Plus a whole bunch more. You'll just have to download it and check it out. Here are just a few screen shots from the database...

I have loaded it to my FTP server, so all you have to do is click on the link below and click on the "Save" button when the dialog box opens up.

To download a zip file containing the Production version of the database plus a detailed 10 page pdf instruction manual --> Click Here

To download the 10 page pdf instruction manual only --> Click Here

To download the newly updated Demo version with 4 years of data included --> Click Here

Please feel free to holler or PM me with any questions or suggestions. I really hope you enjoy the database.

Welcome to the electronic hunting age! Dang, I'm a nerd... :nerd:

DLing right now. Can it be used for multiple people seperatly (me on 1 file, my dad on another)?

Greg
Hey Greg, the database will support as many hunters/observers as you would like. As long as they all hunt/observe the same property(s). If you and your dad hunt different farms, then you'll each need your own database. Same farm = same database, no matter how many hunters you have.

Hope that helps.

Is there any way you could save it as an Access 2000 file?
I'll see what I can do today. I have Access 2000 on my work pc. If I can get it converted down to 2000, I'll create a parallel Production version in Access 2000 format.

Keep your fingers crossed,
Mike

couple of updates...

We've been experiencing server problems, which we should now have resolved. So, if you got kicked off during a download, or just couldn't connect, please accecpt my appologies. Everything looks to be running OK now, so please try again if the download didn't work for you before. And send me a PM if you have any troubles.

Also, I was able to create a Microsoft Access 2000 version of both the Production database and the Demo database. The files will be up on the ftp server this evening. I'll post post a link to them here when I get everything loaded and verified.

later,
mike

I've got it downloaded.:) Thank God I have high speed at work.

Do you think it is necessary to have the demo version of the program in order to figure it out?

While it's not absolutely necessary, the Demo version might help you to see the "bigger picture." Since there is 4 years of data loaded to it, it will allow you to see what to expect when your database begins to mature. I'd say, if you still have questions after reading through the instruction manual and getting it all setup, I'd probably recommend that you download the demo version too so you have something to compare against. Hope that's helpful to you.

Mike,

First of all thanks.

I just bough my own land last fall for hunting so this is going to be great. My daughter, a friend and myself hunt it only with bow so it will be interesting playing with it. Years back I use to write on a calender every day I hunted and all the weather conditions to try and find a pattern. It did help. This should be great.

Thanks again,

Bill

I guess it will not work with Access 2000, that is what I have and it will not open the file. Is there an upgrade I can download or will I have to buy Access 02 or 03?:embara:

I will be posting a link to an Access 2000 Production and Demo version this evening. Check up the page just a little bit and you'll see where I addressed this earlier. :darkbeer: Thanks for your interest! I've got you covered!!

Mike you are AWESOME. I am downloading now and will play with this over the next few weeks. I have always wanted to do something like this but I have never found the time. To do all this work and give it to all of us for nothing is amazing. Just shows how great hunters can be.

Thanks a Million
