Diamond SB-1 and Peep

Hello all, it is time for my weekly random question.

I am currently shooting a diamond sb-1 that is fitted with the tube peep that came stock with the package. While I am not really dissatisfied with how it is workout so far I am thinking about switching over to a tubeless peep so that I can gain some FPS, as well as quiet the bow a little. I will primarily be using this setup for hunting, but with my limited draw length I am looking to gain some speed wherever I can.

My question is that after reading a number of posts on here and other articles it sounds like you can get some peep twist when using cheaper strings, something that I have not really had to deal with using the tube. I am a little concerned that if I switch to a tubeless I will be dealing with a twisting peep since I can only image that the string on these bows is not the greatest, and while I am please with my setup so far, I am curious if anyone on here has any input on this or if I should just leave it alone for now.

Just in case I am shooting at about 60-65lbs working up to 70 (adjusted at home so I have to wait until I go into the shop to have them put it on a scale)
DL: 25.4" (Hence my desire to gain a little FPS where I can)\

Thanks!

I don’t think you’re going to see any real increase in speed from making that change, it will be negligible if it changes at all. The bow will be a little quieter without that tube. But you will very likely have major peep rotation issues with the poor quality stock strings. So you have to decide whether constantly fighting peep rotation will be worth it to lose a few decibels on the shot. It wouldn’t be to me. Your other option would be to put a good quality set of custom strings on the bow.

If you've shot your current strings for a while they should be stretched and settled in. I wouldn't expect much peep rotation. Though I agree with the other poster, I doubt you will see any speed increase by going tubeless.

Agreed. I have an Infinite Edge that my son now uses. The string isn't bad, and he hasn't had much peep rotation. I broke in the string before setting it up for him, and now his basic peep sight (tubeless) seems stable.

When you switch over, you'll probably have to twist your string a bit to get it lined up. But if your string has been broken in (few hundred shots through it), you shouldn't have much peep twist going forward.

like said above, if you have been shooting for a little bit there shouldnt be a ton of peep rotation but it will likely happen down the road. if it were me i would take the tube off and shoot the current strings till the peep started to rotate, find a press and twist the string to line the peep back to normal, if it keeps rotating buy new strings.

i'm a 26.5 DL and speed just isn't in our vocabulary brother. sure you can crank up the poundage to shoot faster but i wouldn't sacrifice comfort and form of the draw for the speed gain

So what you are saying is keep the same peep in, just cut the tubing?

And yes as far as draw length and speed, there are some things that we just can't change so its something I have accepted.

Everything else aside I am more concerned with form and avoiding injury than speed at this point, I have until late summer to make it up to 70lbs so gradual increases it is.

It's rather hit and miss with the cheaper strings. I had a Diamond Infinite Edge Pro that I removed the tube peep on, and it had massive peep twist to the point the bow was unusable until I replaced the strings. I bought two Diamond 320s (one for my son and one for my son-in-law), both came with tubeless peeps and after set-up have not had issues with peep twist.

It looks like it's going to be hit or miss regardless as far as if the peep will twist or not with these strings.

I went back and ran the numbers through a arrow speed calculator again and I think I may have misread how much speed I would gain by losing the tube- about 8 fps according to that particular calculator.
