Hopefully someone can help me. I'm shooting a 2005 Bowtech Liberty 29" DL at 65#. I had things pretty well tuned (I thought). Last night I changed sights from a Cobra Sidewinder (three pins set at 10, 20, and 30 yrds) to a Toxonics 3 pin. No other changes. Last night I started sighting in and got the top pin hitting dead on at 10 yrds. Tonight I started to walk back tune. 10 yrds spot on. 20 yrds both arrows touching. 30 yrds 6" gap but vertical line. 40 yrds gap but still vertical. I repeated several times with same results. Question is what happened to my pin gap. With only changing sight how can I go from a ~1/16" gap to none. I checked all the other specs and nothing has moved. I'm confused

First off, setting a 10 yard AND a 20 yard pin is a complete waste of time. The point of impact difference bewteen 10 and 20 is almost zero, hense no pin gap. Start with 20, then go to 30 and then 40. Don't bother with a 10.

I think the Toxonice is a little shorter that the Sidewinder. The shorter the sight (closer to the riser) the smaller the pin gaps. The longer the sight gets, the larger the gaps get.

Exactly. That is one of the many reasons I shoot a Hogg It with the bar fully extended. I also agree on the sight pin settings. It isn't 1991 anymore bows are alot faster now. I set my first pin around 25yds depending on the speed.

Not to be contrarion, but the Cobra sight had a shorter extension. Also, that same sight had a 10 and 20 yard pin on the same bow with no other changes. How could that have changed?
As the extension gets shorter the pin gap closes. I am not real sure if I even understand your question? Are you saying the Toxonics had a closer pin setting than the Cobra did? That would not make any sense at all.

At any rate, there really is no real sight setting for most high speed bow below about 16 yards. This is defined by two lines, the first one is the flight path of the arrow and the other is the line of sight. Depending on how high your eye is from the nock, these two are going to converse at about 16ish yards.

Try this. Sight in your twenty yard pin good. Then step in a couple of yards and shoot the twenty yard pin again. The arrow impact will probably be higher. Now, move in two more, the arrow impact may be higher or lower. Move in a couple more and try again.

At some point the closer you move in the lower the arrow will hit on the spot. This is because your line of sight and the arrow path never converse. By the time you get to about 10 yards, you will have to hold your 20 yard pin over the spot to hit the spot. Try a couple of shot at 8 yards or 6 yards, what pin do you have to use? It may be your 30 or even 40 yard pin.

I actually, set my pins for hunting at 15, 25 and 35 yards.
