Everyone knows the least expensive way to buy feathers is to get full-length ones. If you don’t do enough to justify buying a chopper or burner, maybe this will be an option for you.
I sold my burner some time back, my chopper blew up and I sent it back the 3Rivers for repair and it blew up again in short order. So… I figured I’d just make my own jig.
First: I cut two pieces off of some galvanized flashing in a shape close to what I wanted.
Second: I clamped them together and cleaned them up on my bench grinder. A sander or drum sander would work fine.
Third: I glued a small spring clamp to them with Original Gorilla Glue.
Fourth: Put the full-length feather in the clamp; cut off each end.
Fifth: Trim with scissors.
Sixth: Burn with a Bic lighter.
