Rubber on cooler wet days and regular hiking style on others. Much easier and quiter in the non rubber. Rubber is hotter on your feet and will release just as much scent as non rubber. As for the lure trail, I have had deer and many other animals follow them to my tree in both rubber and non rubber boots. In fact, growing up in the 80s and 90s I never used scent killer anything, especially on my boots and still never had much of a problem. Leave them in a sealed bag with a bunch of leaves, pine needles,meta for a month before walking in the woods and you should have no problem.

I have had only one experience in the woods where a deer left because of the odor of my boot trail, all others were simply me and them being down wind. Just my opinion
