I am suffering from target panic, and have an idea Id like to try. I suffer from what some refer to as peek a boo. I cannot put my pin on the dot, as it covers it up and my mind does not like that. Im wondering if anybody makes a site that is a ring? I could then put the dot inside the ring, which would not cover it up. I currently shoot an Impact Archery Cosmic site, but am willing to try a different site with the ring to see if that helps me. Im thinking the ring would need to be about 3/16" I.D. or smaller.
Any help in locating something like this would be appreciated.
thanks,

Ken

Thanks for all the leads/suggestions. I guess I failed to mention I dont shoot in competitions. I shoot in my yard at small targets and 3d now and again. This sight will need to be used for hunting, so I dont think anything with magnification would be wanted. The cross hair scope was neat, but Id really rather just have a ring. I guess I will contact one of the manufacturers to see if they offer any scope with no magnification with a small ring. Looks like Ill be spending about $70 for a cheap one, and that seems pretty expensive to test a theory. Maybe I can rig something up from home depot before I make a purchase like that.
thanks,

Cheap scopes/

I think you would benefit from a 2 or 3 power scope with a large ring it in.

I too suffer from target panic and have found a lower power scope, ( 4 power for me ) with a large ring settles me down a lot and although I still cannot placed the bull, spot, X, or whatever dead center in the circle, I can however placed the spot, I'm aiming at, inside the top of the large ring and the results are really surprising.

I shoot spots and animals with this ring and I think I do quite well with my high being 574 on the animal round out of a 588 top score using this method with the ring.

Spots however, are better now, but since target panic, I am still 10 points below what I use to shoot on the field and hunter rounds before target panic.

You will have to search around for a used scope to purchase one at a reduced price.

New scopes are somewhere from $ 100.00 or more depending on where you buy.

Look around and I think someone will have a old scope for $ 50.00 or less that you can put a ring in.

Good luck!

attn: R2D302 & KENN......it has been well documented forever i had just come to accept target panic in my archery shot......no matter the scope, lens, clarifier, rings, dots, up posts, down posts, cross hairs, drilled lens....none of it has stopped my freezing whether i drew up or let down on the target....and once i learned to get close and "time" it just right with that extra drop.....the panic was still always there.....and on those rare days i could get things close in sync.....i still had that noticable flintch and jerk....

ALL OF THAT CHANGED....once i went with the new carter evolution release....since i dont have to get a finger or thumb near the release....i can now hold on the center of the target.....before you keep searching sites, scopes, and len's.....get one of these releases in your hands...you might find looking at the center of the target a neat feeling...

good luck

Why not just buy a 0.029 fiber pin sight and remove the fiber. This will leave a open ring for you to look through.

Being a Ford man, Ill have to side with R302(motorsport block?). J/K Could you send me a pic of your site?

Chevy man, I went on their site, and that release isnt offered yet. I take it you are sponsored by them or something? The concept sounds interesting, and I would like to try one. Im guessing that is a $150 or so release, based on what I see on their site. I dont mind spending a few dollars to find a cure. That being said, I currently shoot a Zenith Archery release that is a BT release. Yes, this does help a lot. I can hold super stead with this release, providing Im shooting at a target that my pin doesnt cover. For example, if I shoot at a 8" paper plate @ 30yds, I can stack the arrows in the center of it, just by keeping my pin in the center of that big target. However, put a piece of white paper up that is 3"x3" and my hunting site will cover that pretty easy @ 30yds. My mind wants to focus on the target, as Bernie Perlite(spelling)suggest, but I cannot do that with the pin covering it. My arm will dance around or drop, so I can see the target. On animals or 3D targets its not so bad, but I think I can do better. I want to practice on dots so to speak(small targets)and cannot hold a group to save my life. However like I said, put up a large target, and Im happy with the results I get by shooting for the center of it. This is why I feel a ring would help, cause I could see the small target inside the ring. Make sense?

Ken,

Sounds like this is the type of sight your looking for. The Vital Bow Gear Hollow Pino Sight.

Heres a link to their website: This sight is about halfway down the page.

Target panic

Sometimes having a total change in your sighting technique will help. You can try The Anchor Sight for 30 days and if it doesn't improve your shooting just send it back. We have many archers who have had similar problems and this has helped them tremendously. If you plan on spending $70.00 this will be guaranteed to work or your money back.

That's good to know.

You always got to have a plan B.

Maybe someone will trade me a Carter Evolution for the $ 180.00 Carter Four I just bought and I am struggling with.:embara:

Hello Ken
Quote = thinking the ring would need to be about 3/16" I.D.

Ken take the note book paper repare stick on rings. The rings used to repare the ring paper hole when they get tore loose in a note book.

Work great for the 5 spot target. Just think you can have your favoorit color

Thanks guys,
Doc, I think a .029 hole would be way to small.

Blackwolf, that is what Im thinking I need. Id have to figure out how to mount that to my current site, but that should be easy.

tttll77, That is, or is a copy of what I had on my bow last year(no peep). I had it on there for a good 2 days and threw it in my lessons learned pile. Sorry, but its just not for me.

Unkbond, great idea, but I dont have a site that would allow me to try that. Im guessing your thinking to put that on a scope type site, that has no dot or anything on it?

Anybody ever use a magnification scope for hunting? Wonder how it fairs in low light conditions?

Im leaning towards making up a cheap site, using a piece of wire to just test the "see thru ring theory". If that works out, Ill be online getting the VBG site, or a scope.
