Does Evercalm stick go "bad" over time?

A couple years ago I was hunting at a friend's farm and noticed a deodorant-type applicator stick of Evercalm in their bunk house. Back in the 1990's, I went through a scent testing phase and dumped a bunch of money on products that mostly disappointed, so I stopped buying them for many years. However I had heard the claims of Evercalm "herd in a bottle" and wondered if it actually worked. My friend related that it belonged to his son....who felt it was really effective. The next day the son came over and I asked him about it. He had just purchased a new stick and handed me the one that was about 2/3 gone to try for myself. I tried it without any conclusive evidence and then put it in a ziplock baggie....and promptly lost track of it until this afternoon. Thus my question.....in the stick form....is it stabilized enough to still be good two years later?

I have no idea what Evercalm actually is, but I assume it's made from deer dander, secretions, etc?

If so, it's an organic compound of some sort and as such it would be subject to breakdown and eventual decay.
So it probably won't be as potent as a fresh stick, but I doubt it would be likely to spook deer, either.

I'd probably use it as long as it seemed to smell similar to a fresh stick.

And that is what I wish to avoid.

I understand that liquid scents age.....some become expensive ammonia. However I don't know what they do in the process of making evercalm a solid.....hence the question. It has been down in the basement in a ziplock bag in a box so it was out of sunlight or high temps.

I’ve always been a big believer in leaving as little a footprint in the woods as possible. I just can’t put faith in synthetic scents.

This has been my approach for the past 20 years......but sometimes curiosity gets the best of me. I see it advertised and people talk about it, so I begin to wonder if it really works. Undecided at this point if I am going to give it a try???

Thanks to those who looked up the FAQ.....I guess I should have done them myself. However I figured with the broad footprint on AT, someone would have experience to answer my inquiry with real world feedback. As mentioned, I kept the stick in a ziplock and it is still moist and smelly.

I keep mine in a ziplock bag and use it from year to year until it's gone. I use it every time I go into the stand.

If it "hurt" me as in gone bad......I would think I would see a trend where I had good years followed by bad years then good years when I got a new stick........lol. I don't see that.

Does it not help as much or is it not as effective? That I can't say.

I tried them both Evercalm and VS1 all season last year in both OH and TN. I followed directions & recommendations to the T. The Evercalm got used up completely and the VS1 used up mostly. I gave an honest, objective effort. What I found was that I saw no more deer than usual and I still got busted when a deer whiffed me. There was absolutely no difference here nor there when I used it as opposed to when I didn't.

Take it for what it is worth. I used it in Virginia on private land with great results.

On the other hand. I've used it in Mississippi on public land. As soon as the deer smell it they are gone. On Facebook Mississippi hunters page (bunch of crap), the evercalm is called the ole spook stick. Lots of people have said they tried it and deer spooked form it. I've seen the same thing. Those Mississippi deer just don't like it.
