Went to my local Cabelas recently and performed a test. I was looking at every single product to see where it was made.

Initially, I was just playing around...but....I was shocked to discover that 99.9% of everything in Cabelas was made in China. I was bummed.

We really are in trouble....

Whats really sad is that when they first opened up,almost everything they carried was made in the U.S.A,I still have lots of old camo clothes from cabelas that are all made in U.S.A.,and they are much better in quality than the newer imported crap.I have stuff from 1994 that still looks like new,all the old heavy weight polarfleece was awesome, they stopped making it probably because it lasted too long nobody was buying new stuff. Most of the things they carry now are junk, some stuff is still good but for the most part its imported junk.WHAT HAPPENED???

thats because just about nothing is made in the usa,, in archery most bows are still made here and only a few brands of sights, at most,,, i did hear gold tip is bringing back some of it's production here but havn't been able to confirm that.... the fact is we just dont make anything hardly in america's almighty quest for the dollar overall we have just sold out...

Off the top of my head (and, yes, this reply is a long time after the original thread posts) here are a few items, more to come once I investigate):
Lodge Cast iron - About Lodge | Making Heirloom-Quality Cookware | Lodge Cast Iron
Cabela's Coolers- Cabela's Polar Cap Equalizer 60-Quart Cooler | Cabela's (cabelas.com) [actually better than Yeti]
GLoomis fishing rods- All GLoomis rods are made in Woodland WA factory
Browning Arms Company.
Winchester Repeating Arms Company.
Yacht manufacturer Hatteras (recent acquisition by White River Marine Group)
Buck knives.
Simms- the only wader manufacturer in the USA in Montana
Camco - RV accessory manufacturer

I used to like cabelas but after they sold to bass pro they seem to be the red headed step child. Just not the same anymore.

to the original question,,,,,cheap and made in USA are not compatible, to support USA you pay up. We have been doing this to ourselves as a country for decades sadly. I try to buy make is USA but its getting harder and harder all the time.

I think a better thread topic would be more on the lines of what company that sells clothing IS made in the USA????

Not to single you out, but see a lot of this here and elsewhere. China builds plenty of quality products. Things made in China are not inherently worse than if the same thing was made in the US. Just as something being made in the US doesn't inherently mean it's superior quality.

I also would prefer more things be made in the US, but strictly taking politics out of the equation, the things being made in China, or outside the US being crap is a myth that needs to end. A jacket is a jacket - it being made in China or Viet Nam doesn't make it crap or worse than if it were made in the US. Bottom line is making most things in the US, or the west period, just isn't possible anymore. That $75 jacket would suddenly become a $300+ jacket, wouldn't be any better, and nobody would buy it.

Again, I would prefer more things be made in the US, but the "foreign = crap" mentality is stupid.

I would buy more China stuff. It supports the Communist party there. They sent arms to Korea and Vietnam to combat us. They just released a virus that threw the whole world in a calamity. We are now about 10 trillion more in debt then we were before. But China...they profited from the whole affair. They were never worried about losing a couple million people by their actions, they have too many anyway. They have our country infiltrated with spies who manipulate our government and a lot of business's. And they are the worlds largest polluter .

I have nothing against the Chinese people or the Nation,or free and balanced trade. But talk about being "woke". I am "woke" alright,to the corruption within our government and around the World by the CCP to manipulate things . Everytime I get a chance to NOT buy something from them...I do.

And the last time I was in Cabelas in April....it looked like a Ghost town, several people walked up to me and commented on it. So did the rest of the surrounding business...it was an area still struggling from the last recession, brought to its knees's by the CCP's virus to change the trade laws in this country back in their favor....think that's not what happened?

Open a retail shop and try stocking it with made in the USA only. You can’t sell what’s not there.

We shouldn't be in denial of the current state of things. Between the EPA and the lack of knowledge and skillset in tool / die / foundry, there are some things that can really only be made in China, Mexico or the like where they know what they are doing, and do it well for a good price, and without environmental hoops. Being made in the USA doesn't mean it's better in some cases, because this country has lost a lot of that skillset.

But there are a lot of things that are made in China that make no sense, and it's totally ridiculous that companies don't realize people would rather buy a homeland product and would pay the meniscal difference easily. And in a lot of the cases were that lesson isn't learned, quality control of the production can be worse, there can be heavy delays in shipments, stolen intellectual property, patent infringement that is near impossible to enforce, and risk of other things that really aren't worth saving a dollar. But as long as people keep shopping in Walmart, then the problem will continue. I'll return the soapbox.

At least in archery there are a bunch of great American companies making great products for a sport people really love. Support local shops. Support small businesses.

I think you're quite off in that number. Factor in firearms and ammunition, bows, optics, atvs, boats, arrows (Easton and Gold Tip), broadheads, Traeger and Camp Chef grills and smokers, just to name a few that are US or European made and your percentage of Chinese drops substantially. Maybe if you're perusing the clothing departments or some of the random accessories you will find Chinese made stuff.

I bought a pair of LL Bean Maine Pac Boots thinking LL Bean is made in USA right? Wrong.
It's hard to find, but there is a tiny tag inside the boots that says, you guessed it...Made in China.
I was so whizzed up that I called their customer service and asked them where their pac boots were made. (Just to hear their response).
The girl told me that "All LL Bean boots are designed in the USA".
I told her "That's not what I asked you."

I wouldn’t look too far past the mirror before complaining. Everyone wants everything cheaper. We all talk a good game but nobody is willing to pay more for US made goods.
