Hi,

New to archery and in the most charts I should use an arrow with 380-420 spine but I got some arrow from a friend with 300 spine. What is the drawback with using those arrows instead of ones with the correct spine?

I’m shooting Hoyt Axius Alpha #60 and draw length of 26.5

So, 300 is actually a stiffer spine, not a "lower" spine. The spine numbers refer to how much flex an arrow spine has. So the higher number means there is more flex, the lower number means less flex. A 400 arrow is a "low spine" arrow, while a 300 is a "higher spine" arrow.

The biggest "issue" you will have is that using different spine arrows will effect the bow's tuning. If you tune the bow to a lower spine arrow, and then use a stiffer arrow you will see different arrow flight. Also, most stiffer spine arrows will also have a higher "grains per inch". Meaning, two arrows of the same brand and model, cut to the same length, but with different spines will have different overall weights. So don't try to shoot different spine arrows during a shooting session.

All that said, I shoot at 61lb and 28.5 inches and both my Prime bows prefer the 300 spine over the suggested 350s.

No problem, have you cut them yet? You can leave them a couple of inches long and/or add point weight. What are you using these arrows for? They will end up a littler heavier, but not a problem for hunting or shooting known distance. It will also make your bow quiet. Go to victoryarchery,com/arrow guide/open spine selector and play with different point/insert weights and shaft lengths.

The only caveat to the above posts is if the arrows you are using are Carbon Express brand. For some reason they number there spines the opposite of everyone else. So, the higher the # the stiffer the spine on Carbon Express arrows only.

Just what I was thinking ;)

For all I know it could be a recipe for chocolate chip cookies or directions to Stockholm...
I worked for a Swedish based company for 20 years, and recognized some of the content.
Then, I used Google to translate the entire response. Reading through your many posts, it's in line with a "BlinbdArcher response. Somehow ??? your response was converted to 'Svenska'.

If you use Google Translate, you'll feel better.
