Drop Away Rest Decision

Evening friends,

Luck has provided me an opportunity to buy a friend's bow for a damn good price. It comes with a QAD Integrate MX drop away rest.

My question is do I keep this rest on the bow or swap in my Hamskea Primer I just bought for my older bow?

I understand the QAD is a more advanced and more expensive rest. But as understand the limb driven hamskea is bullet proof and easy to adjust/repair in the field. Just looking for pros and cons from folks who have much more experience with drop aways than me.

Up until earlier this year I was still shooting a whisker biscuit.

Bow is a PSE Levitate at 60lb draw weight. Primary use is hunting and occasional 3D. I'm still new to this.

Thanks.

I use all of those and currently have both Hamseka and QAD rests on some of my bows. There isn’t really a wrong choice here between the Hamskea and the QAD in my opinion. It’s about what you prefer. I feel both are just as easily adjusted in the field. I leave a short tail of the timing cord coming out of my QAD so if I need to I loosen the screw and then pull the tail a little to shorten the cord or pull the other direction to loosen. The QAD has nice micro adjust features which are convenient and the full containment is also a positive.

I lately prefer the limb driven rests and primarily use an epsilon with micro adjust as well. For me I like not needing to retime my rest when I make some occasional cable adjustments or draw length adjustments. And I always use a prusik knot on my rest cord so that I can easily raise the launcher when I’m tweaking stuff and then easily tighten it back down. Don’t love the clamps that come with them.

But overall I think the QAD MX has a bit more features I.e micro adjust over the Primer and it is a sleek low profile rest that will serve you well. If it was between those two I’d probably go QAD but if I had any consistency issues I’d yank it quick and go to the primer. Good luck.

As a thought they all work well, a Cable driven is not as forgiving as a limb driven rest. The Cables stretch, your tie off point moves, and then your rest acts all weird.

Limb driven is where its at, my and others opinion of course. But you have the QAD Already, so why not just run with it for now?

A limb driven rest is not the shizz. It is good but so are the cable driven. I have been shooting the cable driven since 2006 and not a single failure. I have used Ripcord (2006 version) and QAD Integrate. Both have been excellent. I did recently replace the OG Ripcord with a CBE Defy on my Switchback and it works but the QAD on my LiftX is better. I will also add that I thought the QAD Hunter rest was horrible.

QAD for me. I’ve been shooting qad drop aways since 2007 and ive never had one fail.

I mainly hunt elk, so I’m never sitting in a stand. Busting up and down mountains through the thickest bs you’ve ever seen, I want the full containment.

Thanks for the input everyone. I really appreciate everyone's take on this. I was worried about the cable driven because my local bow shop has had multiple failures with ripcords recently they've had to take back which is how I ended up with the Hamskea. I'm less worried about the QAD now. Since it's already on the bow and dialed in I'll stick with it for now and see how I like it. Whoever buys my old bow is going to luck out on a brand new hamskea that's only a week old haha.
