After spotting an elk sized buck last season I want to try and do some spot stalk and try and find him.
The past winter wasnt too bad so I think a buck like that should still be alive.
Should I just start looking in the coulee where I saw him last november? How far would a mature buck like that travel in 9 or 10 months?
Man I'd love to show up Chuck Adams and shaft that buck!

I cant argue with ya but i might add, I dont think Chuck has taken a world record muley although I sure he has them in the books. Although he has taken some impressive elk. Actually, TWO amazing elk!

Four years ago I shot a muley with ear tags. I contacted F&G and the boilogist called me back and informed me the deer had been shot 21 miles from where he was tagged...acridlon

But he will soon..I heard he just got engaged..

About the buck.... it is hard to tell... Did you see him during the rut? If so no telling where he will be in the early season... But that Coulee is probably a good start... I would spend alot of time glassing.. If you are lucky he might be in there and you might be able to pattern him.

depending on your area and the snow he could have traveled 50 miles to head for a winter haven, but he should come back to the general area.

Mulies obviously have more of a tendency to roam and aren't as predictable as whitetai, however I would bet that deer is within a three mile radius from where you spotted him.

Good luck,

Now thats funny. A man can spend his whole life pursuing the right beaver and never see it. Mark another trophy for Chucky!

Yeah he was rutting, really he was trying to git r done! But the ol' boy came on too strong and scared the hell out of the two does!
Yeah it is hard to pattern the mulies! The winter wasn't that bad. A few storms but not much.
Yeah that coulee has a few water holes in it and a lot of brush for bedding.

So if I find him how the heck do you stalk a an educated deer like that? Just get down wind with cover scent and start belly crawling?
