Are Easton arrows inferior? I see a lot of Trad shooters use Easton carbon arrows, but a friend of mine who builds arrows is telling me to use anything but Easton. I have Easton Carbon Legacy 5mm and Goldtip Traditional Classic XT. They are both very good, but I have only shot them into targets

What exactly did your friend say was wrong with them?

He said they weren't full carbon and not as durable as other makers. According to the specs, the wall is markedly thinner than the other brands I am looking at. A 400 spine 5mm Axis has an OD of 0.266

Do they have a higher failure rate than other 5mm arrows under normal shooting conditions?
Just curious, since most people haven't had issues.
Tks and sorry about misspelling your handle.

I guess my point is that by your reasoning, a 2117 ts "stronger" than a 2114, and technically it is, but other factors come into play but as long as the "less durable" one is durable enough, the point becomes moot.

Easton has been around for a long time and Axis arrows for a few decades, so it might just be a pick your poison thing. If YOU aren't comfortable with them, for whatever reason, then go with something YOU are more comfortable with.

Understood. It's not my bias. I'm just trying to get assessments from people who have used them before.

If you are hitting hard things like rocks, trees, wood backstops and the like, you will break any arrow. The Easton Axis line of arrows which includes the 5mm Carbon Legacy are some of the toughest arrows made. I still have 19 of my original 2 dozen 5mm Axis Traditionals…use for small game and stump shooting.

I switched to aluminums out of all my recurves. Prior to that I shot Easton and Gold Tip carbons.

Nothing wrong with either one. I just moved to aluminum to get my arrow weight up, without all the add ons. If I went back to carbon, I would go back to Easton and Gold Tip. Easy to find and work great.

My Easton Axis Traditional and Carbon One arrows are actually tougher than their "counterparts" on different brands. My only issue is Easton discontinued these arrow shafts.
