I really like to use an open reed call for most of my cow calling (almost anything from Rocky Mountain Elk Calls) unless im solo. Stay away from the hoochie mama in any OTC unit, elk will literally run from it.

When im hunting with one of my buddies, we will usually call for each other and use a 2 man setup. If im calling for one of them i have free hands and like the open reed. If im solo, i like to use a diaphragm so i can have my hands free to hook up if needed. Sorry, should have been more clear.
