Hey everyone,

Im looking to get back into bowhunting after a long (10+ year) break. I'm hoping to hear some recommendations on gear you deem absolutely essential (besides the bow and arrow, of course) for someone who is starting out. Drop brands/links if you'd like, too!

Thank you in advance.

(I will be hunting in the PNW for the most part)

That list can get extensive depending on who you ask. There is a thread on “how much does your hunting pack weigh” that have a lot of options on what people carry in. It also depends on the type of hunting you do. As a general rule, newer and experienced hunters will take in a lot of gear. As hunters get more experienced and many years in the field they will start looking at “what can I do without“ and start eliminating gear. I personally think safety is number one, so gear in that department is a must have including a small trauma kit, after that I ask myself “what do I need to kill a deer safely”? Then comes comfort in clothing, food and water. I think communication like a cell phone is extremely important for emergencies.
After three sits in the woods you will know what is needed.

A good quality, sharp knife. I like Benchmade.

Quality headlamp that does red/green light.

Milkweed for a wind checker, forget the powders.

Tree strap (if hangin’ and bangin’), I like the Tethrd option.

Refillable water bottle. I like the Nalgene 32oz (wide mouth).

Rangefinder with angle compensation. I like the Vortex Crossfire HD 1400.

First aid kit with STOP THE BLEED and Coban (self adhesive stretch wrap) is a must for me! Knife, fine tip sharpie, release plus a spare in the pack, paracord (many uses), zip ties, headlight with extra batteries, and some way to navigate and communicate.

If you have your bow outfitted, release, arrows, all that, then time in the woods scouting is the biggest need for you.

I guess if it's in my waist pack then it's essential...........if it's not it's not.........lol

So a rangefinder, knife, lighter, TP, Saw, Rachet cutters, extra release, call, flashlight, Evercalm, safety lanyard, SD cards, deer drag, extra batteries, small cap light.
