So I tried to list a bow on facebook marketplace yesterday, everything looks good, I hit publish, it says publishing then BOOM, it gets shot down cause its a "weapon". Where did I go wrong? I see all kinds of bows listed on there. Did it get picked out because of a complete picture of the bow? No mention of "bow" in the description, just year make and model type stuff.

Facebook treats bows the same as guns. I've never seen a bow on Marketplace. There are some groups that has a way around that but not Marketplace.

Join a specific archery buy/sell/trade group and sell on there, but beware of scammers.

If trying to sell on actual Marketplace just list the brand and "bow case" for sale at your asking price for the bow and put a picture of a bow case on there. People will message you and you can give them details over messenger. It still may be flagged but if you click to appeal it it will likely be approved.

I did that trying to sell a Mathews Traverse. I just listed it as a "Mathews Traverse Bow Case" for $600. People familiar with Marketplace will know what you are doing.

I put a bow sight on there and got slammed. I got set up on ebay, and I do my selling on there, now. They take a cut, but it’s better than not being able to sell it period.

As others have suggested, you need to find one of the many archery buy/sell Facebook groups and sell your bow there. Facebook will instantly flag almost anything archery-related because they view it as a "weapon" or "weapon parts." Even if you get around the image sensing technology and try getting "cute" in your title and/or description, they'll catch that too. Try it a few too many times, and they'll permanently ban you from the Marketplace.

Seems like there has to be a much better use for this kind of tech than screwing with people on Facebook, but here we are....

Out of control.

I admin 3 groups geared towards a different hobby, and they're all 100k+ members. Between them, I ban at least 100 scam accounts trying to join every day. And no matter how diligent I try to be, at least a few wiggle through every week.

The archery for sale groups are 100x worse. There's 2-3 I can think of off the top of my head that are extremely well managed, and rarely have problems, but that's out of the 30+ I'm a member of.

The good news is that they're usually easy to spot if you know what you're looking for. There's also multiple ways to protect yourself so that if you do get got, you'll get it back.

Why do people still feed the monster?

FB, Google/YouTube hate you, your hobbies, and everything you believe or value. If nothing else, the Twitter files (and later FB files) exposed how government bureaucrats used BigTech as agents to violate your first amendment rights. They were "meddling in the election," just as the Russians were accused of, but this was with the full power of the federal government and cooperation of BigTech.

Why continue to empower BigTech? I left FB years ago, and instagram after that. I refuse to use WhatsApp. I left gmail, and I don't use google.

To each their own, but complaining about their mistreatment of you when you continue to allow them to sell your data for their profit doesn't seem logical.

Why not sell the bow here? This site has a excellent classified section, and there is even a feedback mechanism. The limited access also helps cut down on fly-by scammers.

Facebook keeps getting worse and worse. It is a shame because so many of us have accounts on there to keep up with friends/family. It had such great potential, but Zuckerberg won't change (except for the worse). He is fully committed to the far left globalist's disarmament and wacky WOKE social agenda. So, we are all better off to stay off Facebook and stop enriching and empowering him and his cohorts. Or, at least get on Facebook no more than absolutely necessary!

The sooner sportsmen ditch FB and FB marketplace the better. I've never used it and never will, but it must be convenient because hunters and fishermen keep going back to it.

I've lost count of the times I was interested in a product or a group, and I was told, "Just check it out on FB". I'll search it long enough to get the contact info, but I am not interacting through FB. And I'm not an old fart either.

The big reason is that groups/clubs/competition organizers/etc want to have an online presence but building and maintaining a website is not that easy or cheap anymore. Whole lot easier for them to just have a facebook group.

I am a member of a few FB groups. I stop in every couple months to see whats going on and to find match schedules, etc. I tell people NOT to send me any sort of FB message if they expect me to read it within the next three months. You can text or email me and I still might ignore you, but I keep it as separated as possible from my phone and main computer. I have a Linux laptop that I look at FB on and don’t log into anything else on that laptop…..

The only reason I tried to list the bow on there is to do it locally, in person. The buyer can handle/shoot it and make sure they want it, and nobody has to make any leaps of faith with payment or shipping.
The only real reason I even got on F.B. to begin with is to follow everything for I.B.O. Otherwise I could probably dump the whole thing and never miss any of it.

Got shot down on FB when I published a pic of a beautifully made wooden US flag with our USA Crossbow logo on it!
and I unwittingly became one of the hosts of that fraudulent Ravin crossbow giveaway! They had all my contact info. Probably from the USA crossbow web site I manage, Got a call around midnight last Friday, guy left a v mail, email and text! Said he ordered one of those crossbows 2 months ago from me and didn’t get it yet! Had to tell him he got scammed! I see that Blake Shelton is the new unwitting host of those crossbows now! Ha!
